Anybody have experience of living with this condition? My 15 year old step daughter shows signs of this conditon. Her father was diagnosed with it and she seems to have very similar traits.

An ex GF had it. Very strange condition to get your head around.

Plenty of stuff on the internet about it. Best to get to a doc and see whats what first and foremost.

Best of luck

First of all I would say that 15 is a very difficult age and many teenagers, especially girls, show signs of being happy little angels one minute and hellcats the next, without a medical diagnosis I wouldn't burden her with a label until you know for certain. My step daughter was a nightmare from 13 through 17, really was hard to live with and I had to detach myself from the worst of her moments for my own sanity.

I agree that it might be typical teenage girl behaviour as well. Our teenage lad is pretty chilled. Where she hits the roof at almost anything.

Bi polar is very hard to deal with. I can only suggest that you try to educate yourself.

Try and be positive and stay strong on the situation.

I have bipolar, be very careful as the symptoms can be similar to other things and may a doctor has messed up diagnosis. Also be very careful of any medication she might be prescribed, they can be pretty nasty and very difficult to come off. feel free to PM

I have severe Bipolar, currently on Lithium, I'm stable and have been for a couple of years now. My issues were Mania and Hypomania.

I know several females who have it (my cousin being one) and know that it can be quite a cruel illness in the teenage years.

The Psych Board forums online are a wealth of knowledge and helped me far more than my GP when I was initially diagnosed.

As other posters have said, if you need to chat, just ping a message over.
