Following on from this thread I thought I'd start a new one for the PH May 2020 C25K challenge.

I started on 2nd May and today completed Week 2 Run 2. How's everyone else progress?

I started 26th of April, just finished week 3 run 3, slightly worried that I’ve goes an ankle injury but don’t want to let up on it. Looking at the 20 minute run coming up in well 5 and slightly worried about it at the moment.

I might be in, the problem is I don’t know where I am. I can cover 5k without too much trouble, not constant jogging but a mixture of jogging and walking in about half an hour.

I might try at week 5 and see how I get on.

I’m in a similar position and I’ve been doubling up on weeks for each run, eg:

Wk4 R1 + Wk3 R3 back to back
Then
Wk4 R2 twice
Then
Wk4 R3 + Wk5 R1 back to back

This has stood me in good stead for completing 5k each time and as I follow the same route I know where to start/stop/pace etc.

My last was doubling up on Wk5 R2 but with shorter breaks, tomorrow will be Wk5 R3 twice with either 3 or 5 minutes rest in between. Will take me safely past the 5k marker!

I'm using the coach app on the garmin watch to try achieve my 5k. Seems similar to the C25K plan. Started April 19th and on week 5. 3 runs a week, and 15min straight run yesterday. Not done any real exercise for about a year and a half but enjoying this so far.

I am going to give the coach app a try as well.

3 weeks in, but managed to strain a calf muscle yesterday doing bloody Joe Wicks with the kids. It's a bit looser today, so hopefully will only put me back by a week or so.

Tried starting at week 5 today but 3 reps of 5 run, 3 walk wasn’t enough so I did 5 x 5 run and 4 x 3 walk and was slower than my normal pace. I must normally not rest for 3 minutes between running, or run for more than 5 minutes at the start.

Anyway, I’ll stick with it, structured exercise must be better than my normal muddling through and not getting much better, right?

Edit - looked at week 5 run two which seems possible, 8 min run, 5 min walk, 8 min run... but week 5 day 3 is 20 mins non stop which I know I still can’t do.

I did W2 R3 yesterday, W3 R1 tomorrow. The thought of a 3 minute run seems pathetically daunting.

This is the problem with ‘cheating’ and starting at a later week.. had you been building up muscle/stamina over 5 weeks you’d be ready for the 20 min run. If w5r1 is easy, I’d continue this for 3 runs, then w5r2 for 3 runs and then push on for a slow w5r3. You probably can do it already, but don’t believe you can as you don’t have the groundwork to know it’s possible with 14 runs already in the bag.

I was there this time last week, you'll make it, just take it slow to begin with!

It feels like every week of it starts off with an oh no i'll never manage that, and at the end of day 1 it is an accomplishment. Good luck!

To be honest, this is what I thought the problem would be and my plan was to do exactly what you suggest. I didn’t want to start at the very beginning because I know I wouldn’t have stuck with it if it was too easy but like you say, it’s designed to increase the work slowly but steadily and I’ve not done that.

Inspired by this thread, I downloaded the app the other day, and completed my second run this morning

Found it harder than day 1, not sure if it was just because it was warmer or I was going faster. Uploaded my run to Strava today so I can keep an eye on it going forward, but annoyingly forgot on day 1!

I've always been averse to running, have much preferred weights and classes in the gym to treadmills etc, but this seems a good time to change that

W3R1 today, is meant to be 90s,3m,90s,3m running. Managed 90s,2.5m,90s,2m. Could be a while before I make W3.

Maybe try it again at a slower pace? Which app have you got? I downloaded the PHE one that has Michael Johnson as suggested on the C25K main thread and found it useful on the W3R1 run on Saturday as it breaks up the runs with a bit of chat.

I'm jogging slower than I can walk biggrin

I'm using the same app, Michael too. Managed to finish W3R1 on Sunday and just completed R2 this evening so should be starting W4 on Saturday.

biglaugh good job on getting it done! We're in exactly the same spot, I did W3R2 today.
