Morning All,

No doubt like alot of people, covid hasn't meant people are looking to build their own gyms at home. We have a large garage mostly empty which I'd like to put in a squat rack, bench, Olympic bar etc. I loved doing 5x5 before, and want to get back into it to supplement my running.

Having a look online I'm getting a bit lost on prices and what's worth paying the money for. Plus everything seems out of stock, or people asking silly money for gear on FB or gumtree
Any of you who have a setup at home give me a rough idea on how much its worth paying and where is good to buy from?

Cheers

Olympic bar + 100kg of plates
Squat rack or stands, dependant on space
TRX if you have suitable to mount it on - these are SO underrated!
Foam camping mat for ground work
Selection of resistance bands

The bar and plates will be the biggest outlay of that lot.

You're about 2 months too late I reckon, in another 2 months things will be back in stock and in another 6 months I'm sure there will be plenty on the used market.

Dunno about that, how do you like exercising in a small perspex box?

The world is going to get even crazier before it starts getting back to normal.

Ebay, that's where I've got most of my kit from.
....at a fraction of new prices

I am assuming large numbers of people who bought weight lifting equipment have subsequently not used it - not usual with gym equipment.

Been looking at Ebay but anything second hand seems pricey. Will keep looking though

I have 2 x 7ft, 2 x 6ft (yorks) and a 5ft.
Two sets of weights, rubber and metal from 1.25 to 25 plus a weight rack and bench rack. All Olympic, all going cheap!

At 56 I've had to switch to dumbell only, barbells are too much strain on my joints these days.

Interesting. You have them up for sale?

I bought a load of gear at the start of lockdown. Took about 5 weeks to receive all of it. Lot of the shops have shut or have no stock. I got a powercage from Mirafit. That's a good solid piece of kit. 100kg weights and 7ft bar from Powerhouse fitness and a bench from AgainFaster EU.

Its great having a home setup. Last night I finished work late, had dinner. Then went a did a session in the garage. No way I would have driven to a gym and done that, even if I could. No waiting for the squat rack, no nobbers, wonder why i didnt do it sooner.

Home gym is a huge luxury.

The few times I have been to a gym in the last couple of years the novelty has worn off almost instantly when I have to wait for something and realise my workout is going to take 1/3 longer than normal.
