Anyone shielding?
Discussion
I received the shielding letter back in March so I thought I would start a thread for anyone in this situation.
Reading that letter was quite hard as so many things you take for granted disappear in front of your eyes, then the questions start. How am I going to get food, medicines, etc, etc.
How are others who are shielding managing?
Cheers.

I know two people who are.
My neighbour - she received emails from every supermarket offering her priority delivery slots. That's worked well. She's even offered to add items on for us if we need anything. We've taken to tidying her front garden with another neighbour to give her something nice to look at.
My golf mate - who has banished his eldest son who still lives at home to what he calls the summer house, it's not grand. His son does all the shopping and picks up his plethora of medicine. He's been finding it tough going lately and is now going out, albeit at 4 in the morning to fish for a couple of hours.

Yep, I'm shielding (chronic pulmonary fibrosis).
Worst thing was when the rest of the UK was panic buying so I could no longer get food delivered. Luckily the neighbours rallied round. Then I got an email from Sainsbury's to say that if I was vulnerable, I could ring and register. It took 2 days to get through, but I am now getting a delivery per week.
The real ballache is getting stuff into the house - gloves on, bring it in, wipe each item down with Dettol wipes, wipes into a bag, gloves into a bag, bag into bin.

Shopping is a bit more of a nuisance these days.Worst thing was when the rest of the UK was panic buying so I could no longer get food delivered. Luckily the neighbours rallied round. We know that the virus lives on surfaces for up to 72 hours.
I've got one shelf in my fridge for clean stuff and one shelf in my fridge for stuff that's just been bought. As for tinned food etc, that all goes into a cardboard box in the spare room for a few days. I'm a lot quicker at dealing with the shopping than I was at the start. I guess it's about getting into a routine.

Exactly this, my neighbours have been brilliant with offers of help with everything, the last bit you mention is exactly the same as I do for anything that comes into the house.Worst thing was when the rest of the UK was panic buying so I could no longer get food delivered. Dettol antibac spray is so I have discovered very good at completely destroying the ink on some delivery labels so one less thing to put in the shredder.
I recently received a letter from GP basically recinding the request to shield so I am a bit confused by this as my asthma has been out of control for 18 months and nothing in my medicine cabinet or theirs is helping. I'm assuming that puts me in the clinically vulnerable camp instead.
