Weird eyesight issue

Evening all.
Not often, maybe once every 6 months for the last two years my eyesight has been severely obscured by a series of coloured lines see image for what I see. Usually obscuring 30% of my vision. I thought at first maybe some cones in the retina were having a bad day but if I close each eye in turn the same issue is there in both eyes which makes me think the issue is in the image processing part of the brain.
I have no headaches or issues at the time and nothing causes it, it just suddenly appears for no good reason.
Any thoughts on why this happens?

I don't think it's occular migraine as it affects both eyes the same (I close one eye then the other and I see the same effect in both eyes). That lead me to think it could be visual migraine. But then when I read about Scintillating Scotoma it sounds more like that. Googling Scintillating scotoma threw up this image which is similar to what I get but with straight lines.
I don't get a headache or anything else, just these coloured lines for an hour or so. Odd but seems nothing to worry about. Just a pain if driving as have to immediately stop wherever I am.

I had something similar. It gave coloured halos around objects and people. I reckon it might be the source of halos in paintings. I couldn't drive. I went to the doctor to be told it could be a detached retina and he sent me to the hospital that afternoon. Lots of tests, one which distorted perspective - it was weird but rather fun - and I was told that it was probably stress induced.
I went back to my doctor and he got out a questionnaire. He asked me if I drank coffee. I counted the cups and when I got to 12 or 15 he told me to cut down steadily over a week or so and see if my eyesight returned to normal.
I got a few withdrawal symptoms, but the eyes got better.
