Concern for an elderly neighbour, Social Services?

One of my elderly neighbours (80s) is displaying very anti-social behaviour, spraying water at other neighbours, posting pictures in windows insulting neighbours, etc., etc.. While it isn't pleasant for the community my concern is she is displaying symptoms of dementia/Alzheimers and considering calling social services, any thoughts?

Social services can do little without her consent unless she is found to lack capacity to make decisions for herself and in order to be deemed to lack capacity she would need to have a medical diagnosis of mental impairment. Having a diagnosis e.g. of dementia does also aid the process of accessing social care if necessary. If she is co-operative then getting social services involved - the adult social care team - would definitely be worthwhile.

She needs to be plugged in to her GP - though there is a limit to what the doctor can do if she declines to be seen. I would suggest contacting the GP and relaying the concerns. We get such calls from concerned friends/neighbours frequently and always try to act on them - even if fixing the problem isn’t always possible.

Does she have any relatives that visit? If it’s possible might be worth trying to liaise with them perhaps? Leave a note on their car with your number?

Hope you are right OP and they just need help, just also bear im mind that horrible thick chavs also get old.

Unless you know them and their behaviour has suddenly changed, it may be just they are a horrible thick old chav.

Seem it from both sides, lived next door to a horrible old c**t when living in the south west briefly. Nothing wrong with him mentally, was just a horrible old c**t who long term locals knew him as a horrible younger c**t years back.

However my grandfather who was the kindest, most helpful and generous man you could ever meet turned into an angry swearing nasty person when alzheimers took him. Thankfully he died before he got much worse mentally.
