Bulletproof Coffee
Discussion
Anyone use this in morning or pre workout. I'm on a big deficit and at about 250 calories for the version I make (vegan, plunger coffee blended with tbsp coconut oil, teaspoon peanut butter), it takes up a lot of my daily allowance, although it essentially becomes a meal, breakfast in my case. Tried it for first time this morning, said to release caffeine more slowly for more sustained energy, and suppress appetite by making you feel full longer. Has anyone used this over a period of time and made a judgement of worth v extra calories.
Why are you on a big deficit? you dont really need anything more than a 500 calorie deficit to lose weight. Ideally you need to work out your maintenance calories without any excercise, then work on a 500 calorie deficit, and then add in a bit of excercise.
Make sure you are eating protein with every meal, and make sure you are hitting your protein target daily.
Sounds like you are doing the Keto diet.
I would suggest that to start with, you just set yourself a calorie target, eat what you want providing that you dont go over that target, and you should soon start substituting rubbish food with foods that are less calorie dense and that fill you for longer.
Doing what your doing doesnt sound the best, if you are too restrictive then it becomes too hard to continue, and you will likely go off track.

Had one of these in the USA. Rather nice but pricey.

That's exactly what I am doing. Count calories, regular small meals. Managing really well, lots of energy, getting fitter and lighter. My maintenance calories would be 2800 apparently. Money to friday im having less than 1500, usually average about 1300 a day for the '5 days. Walk and jog every day, couple of hours a week on my bike. Been sticking to this for 5 weeks, down to 117kg. Am not doing keto, dont eat meat or dairy. The coffee wasn't for me, tried it twice, would rather have a 300 calorie breakfast than a cup of coffee. I may have one as a treat now and again as it tasted pretty bloody good! Thanks for your reply and advice. Not really used as as part of any diet or training program. Lads (crossfit w
kers) at work were just having a mug of black coffee with coconut oil stirred in. Yuk.
I looked into it and discovered you have to blend the oil in and use some sort of butter. For a while I'd have a cup a day with proper butter blended in. By far my favorite way to make instant coffee and I find it really moorish.

That's what I did, blended real coffee with peanut butter and coconut oil, very calorie dense and I liked the flavour BUT I'd rather have 300 calorie plus meal. I will have it as a treat, not because of any benefit, just cos I liked it!!

I'm on keto and I use it for breakfast if I've had enough of scrambled egg. I quite like the taste.
However, I just throw butter and coconut oil in the cup and get the tassimo coffee in to it. So not only am I knackering my arteries but I'm also sticking two fingers up to the anti-plastic population.

Tried it for a bit then thought why ruin good coffee.
For a proper rocket-fuel type beverage I use strong green tea, sometimes with fresh ginger added. Negligible calories, big caffeine boost, and appetite suppressant. If I let it stew overnight it gets really zingy. Just the thing for a couple of hours or so of martial arts training.
