Stick to the spirits. Vodka, whisky, tequila.

My diabetic mate used to drink Gin and Slimline tonic as it had the least affect on raising his blood sugars.

Whisky and diet coke works well. I think a whole glass (using the entire can) with whisky is about 50kcals. (One single!!)

Hard Seltzers are promoted as low calorie. The issue is they lack flavour despite what the cans and names suggest.

O/T but what are you missing? Just cut it out for a few months until ideal weight then go back on it sensibly?

Clear spirits are better but all alcohol slows metabolism and your body uses it is a fast-fuel, burning it before using anything else.

This.

You're losing weight, with drinking you're consuming dead calories. Plus the effects of alcohol can make it harder to stick to your diet.

Go without, it isn't hard. Once you've lost your weight then you can go back to it. It's not going to run out!

If you want a lager then i've found Becks Blue is the best. 284ml bottle, pour it in to nice half pint glass, leaving a 5mm head then think of a nice German Pauliner or Hereforder & take a few gulps... you can believe its the real thing & only 39 calories per bottle.

Honestly try it!

White wines especially fizzy are at the lower cal end of alcoholic drinks - not almost zero like the spirits/diet mixer options but adds more variety...

As you're a beer fan, there's little reason to miss out now thanks to the vast array of non-alcoholic beer available.

The already mentioned Becks Blue I remember being one of the only ones around in bars and supermarkets. Now there's a non-alcoholic version of Adnams' Ghost Ship (the "proper" one is one of my favourites), Shipyard's Pale Ale now has a 0.5% version (Low Tide). Peroni's zero version is good, Heineken's 0.0% too, but only when it's really chilled, in my opinion.

My nearest brewery also started canning a non-alcoholic beer at the start of the summer, which is really tasty.

If all that's too much for you, why not try Brewdog's Fifty Fifty. At 2.4% you can have a couple over an afternoon and not feel it.

I genuinely can't think of a no alcohol beer I actually thought tasted good.

I can only echo everything that's been said here.

Ultimately the best thing is to not drink alcohol. But if you must then ensure you fit it in with your calorie goals.

If you must drink then have the neat spirits + a sugar free mixer. like diet/zero coke/pepsi, 7upFREE, DrPepperFREE, SpriteFREE, IrnBru Extra etc.. There are also many fizzy drinks that have fewer calories then normal fizzy drinks (like coca-cola), drinks R Whites, Tango etc. ideally get all the sugar free stuff. Best option if you want fizz is to get soda water/tonic water/sparkling water.

there is 'hard seltzer' wwhich is gluten free, relatively low calorie. but these cans are expensive and really not worthit imo. better off just buying vodka + mixer or a flavoured soda water...or whatever spirit you like.

there was a time where i did lose some weight. along with a calorie deficit/being more active I gave up drinking beer and only had spirits. its easier to get a buzz off of it, and you don't feel as bloated.

Alternative view.

Drink as much as you can, you know, til your back teeth are floating. Then eat a dodgy kebab with unwashed hands. And then throw half a pint of life expired sherry down your neck.
Puke the lot up, and be unable to drink for three weeks.

Or, on a more serious note.
Stay away from low sugar products. Only have two or three beers each week, but make sure they’re your favourites. Enjoy them. Relish them. Drinking alcohol is to be enjoyed or given up altogether. The stuff ain’t cheap, so make the most of it. A few hundred calories ain’t worth worrying about. You’ll be dead in a hundred years, no matter what you do.

I enjoyed brewdog’s alcahol free
Options.

Pink AF and the hazy one were both good!

As others have said though, there really isn’t a good alcahol to drink when trying to lose weight!
