Hi,

I know we've got some experienced weight lifters and I wonder if I can ask for a recommendation...

I'm after an EZ bar, I have Olympic weights to go with it, but I have no idea where to begin as there's loads out there of various shapes and qualities. I will use a lot so don't mind getting something a bit better if it's worth it. Any suggestions? Does it matter?

Also, what sort of reps do you guys go for? I used to do 12 reps x 4 sets, when I used the barbell (which kept ruining my forearms hence EZ bar). Or should I be going for a lower numbers and more weight?

Thanks!

I tend not to bother with curls (if that’s what you are after it for). Would prioritise squat, deadlift, back row, chin ups, and pressing. Amazing how much you can do with a decent barbell.

I only do a small number of exercises, and the rest is running. I really don't know much about what I should be doing, just that it seems to work for me, so appreciate the comments.

I know this is oversimplified, but I do cardiovascular work (running) legs (hill running), upper body (bench press), stomach (crunches with weights), forearms (CoC grips), so I felt I was left with biceps/arms, I initially I did barbell curls which murdered my forearms, so I switched to hammer curls but I've now maxed out my stty screw type weights and I thought an EZ bar would be a better investment.

Back row, I'd not really considered, is that good for arms?

It's an interesting thought to just powerlift though, but I'd have to drop the squats. I think they're great, but I've never been able to do those and keep my running going.

All of those lifts are good for arms.
I guess it comes down to what you enjoy and Prepared to stick at.
I get my running through football but definitely interferes with strength work and squat.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

I guess the bottom line is if you're happy and it's working stick with it.

Rows, curls and pull ups- arms and back nicely trained. Use varying grips to cover all the bases!

Personally, I only ever do curls as rehab if my elbows get cranky. Otherwise, I think you get a lot more bang for your buck with chin ups.
