Food intolerance test - online companies?
Discussion
Morning all
Anyone ever done a food intolerance test with an online "lab" (company)?
I've been diagnosed with IBS after various tests from the NHS. They found nothing seriously wrong with me, put it down to IBS and wished me well on my way.
I know alot of trigger foods (caffeine, spicy food, greasy food, carbonated drinks, some raw veggies etc etc). Since then i've also noticed that when I drink milk or eat a yoghurt my stomach also starts bloating/gas/cramps same as the IBS trigger foods above. No big deal swap cows milk for oats milk and swap dairy yogurt for the plant based stuff. Helps the planet, helps me and helps the planet so win win.
Started eating avocado to substitute the butter and cheese on toast and sandwhiches (2 whole avocado over a week) and straight away noticed my stomach cramps appearing and a bit bloating. Nothing major like if i was to have a black coffee but still noticeable.
Thinking off one of these online tests to see what i can and can't eat but not sure how accurate they are and if they're worth the money.
Any opinions welcome.

Don't do it! They don't work. I'm not sure exactly what they do on their end but there is no way to find out what is setting your IBS off. The best way is basically trial and error.
It sounds crap but IBS covers a massive variety of stuff that is too difficult to test for. If whatever the issue is can't be diagnosed, you'll be put under the umbrella of IBS. If intolerance tesing worked, the NHS would do it and IBS wouldn't really be a thing... (well it would be at least we'd actually know the cause!)
Have a look at the low FODMAP 'diet'. Each letter stands for something that generally caused IBS. It's then a case of cut groups out to find the ones that cause the issue and then bingo, you've got the cause. Sounds like there might be a few different causes for you which is normal. If you go to any decent dietitian or nutritionist, this is what they SHOULD set you up to do.
Just don't do intolerance testing! It does not work!

I have had similar issues on going for a while now. Random things would make me massively bloated / full and just feeling like s
t for hours.
Same as yourself, went to the docs and told them... "yes, try and cut gluten out for 1 month, then if that does not work cut out fruit, if that does not work....etc etc" No one has time for that.
I had spoken to a friend of a friend and he had visited a FI testing place a while back... definitely helped him etc. So I looked into it and read the methods. Wasnt sure so put it off but then one day i just decided f
k it and booked it. All the places local to we were the same price (£60). Went, and as soon as I got there I thought "Well this is a lot of s
te". I had already paid so thought what the hell, see what they try and sell me here.
Yada yada FODMAP, yada yada.... Test time..... "Looks like you have a lactose intolerance". Cut all lactose, dairy etc out for at least 1 month, see how you get on.
3 weeks in and definitely feeling better. It is NOT an exact science and I think there is more at play but it has helped to cut out dairy.

Very similar experience here recently.
Antibiotics, blood tests, countless ultrasounds and CT scan, the works. Nothing found.
Tried cutting out gluten first, then dairy which seems to have improved the pain/gas/bloating.
Weird because I was the guy that said people made up these food intolerances for attention.

Thanks thats what i suspected - too good to be true. If a 60 quid test could tell us everything then we'd all have them.It sounds crap but IBS covers a massive variety of stuff that is too difficult to test for. Back to the food diary it is.
Cheap refined carbs are poison. Usually genetically modified as well, I don’t know if that’s relevant. Purely anecdotal, but I always felt better on a high fat low carb diet with almost no fibre. I think it’s pretty well known that the vagus nerve controls inflammation relating to food, but it’s a long way from being usefully understood, and the nhs just calls it ‘IBS’
Another thing, if your very stressed, and have anterior pelvic tilt on your (usually) left side, your hip flexors can be very tight and cause persistent ibs problems that are nhs unsolvable. if your left foot is turned out when you sit down, thats a bad sign .

Absolutely works.
Mine came back with horrible results.
Grapes
Yeast
Dairy
Gluten
Cows milk
Repeated ear infections
+
A life of abscesses, pompholyx, knee aches and joint stiffness came to an end.
Oh, and the horrendous acne on back, shoulders and face vanished too.
I've been able to nail exactly which foods do what to me over last couple of years. My results were seriously life changing.
A life of steroid cream, antibiotics and aches is over.
Foods can be poisons.
Gluten intolerances cause inflammation and aches
Yeast/Cows milk is acne for me
Grapes certainly contribute to eczema. In my case it was both hands blistering.
My daughter's eczema was caused by beef however.
39 years old when wifey and chiropractor finally convinced me to do it. Oh how I wish I had known decades earlier.
Having had numerous issues with my guts over the last few years I’m intrigued.......Mine came back with horrible results.

Not sure if I believe it but willing to try anyway!
How much and where did you go?
Cheers
I used one and it came back with white wine grapes and vinegar, I went from borderline ibs to a perfect stomach cutting those out.
Also, I would recommend some hypnotherapy as the thought of leaving the house and needing to plan toilets etc can set off an anxious tummy, i now do not give it a thought when leaving the house.
