Pulmonary embolism(i)

Any comments, advice or experiences to share?

Hit me hard! No history, likely caused by diagnosed sarcoidosis. On Apixiban for 6 months+

36 hours out of hospital, no real pain anymore but still taking 4000mg of paracetamol a day just to be sure!

Thats 48 hours I want to forget!

Had one many years ago, never known pain like it tbh.....

Caused by a DVT that wasnt diag'd fast enough and nearly killed late Teens me...

Subsequently had 2 more diag'd DVT's and now on Warfarin for life.....

I spent a week on a ward having a 24/7 Heparin drip and then onto Warfarin when sent home....

Broke my collar bone as a result of a car smash (I was an innocent passenger). This resulted in a pulmonary embolism whilst I was in hospital being patched up for the other injuries. Spent two weeks on a ventilator and gave my wife and family a real scare. Doctors didn't think I would make it. That all happened 33 years ago however and no long lasting consequences.

I have had bilateral pulmonary embolisms. Mine from a misdiagnosed post operative DVT. I had a few years of Warfarin then more recently Apixaban. Apixaban is the winner if you don't play rugby or do much bashing of your head. The embolism thing is pretty scary eh?
Bear in mind that group of blood thinners are all good for DVT and embolism type problems but won't stop you having an MI. Make sure you get properly checked and watch your diet.
You can probably guess how i know.
Had no problems post the embolisms, the meds work really well to stop it getting worse and you will disperse them pretty quickly.

Cheers guys, sounds like I got off lightly!

Have been almost pain free for 24 hours now but having a week off work anyway. For me PE is just another symptom of the Sarc. so now have to watch out for warning signs, warned Apixaban is probably for life as will be some sort of immunosupressant. Great combo!

Thankfully my rugby days are long over.
