Self isolation nonsense...

Started feeling rough Saturday and Sunday so got a test on Monday which turned out to be positive. Feeling all better now however, managed to give it to the Mrs after her test yesterday. So, I got the email from Test and Trace saying I must SI until the 24 Nov after testing positive. The App stated that I had to SI until the 27 Nov 20 and now after the wifes positive test, it says I have to SI until the 30 Nov 20. Which is it????? Advice all seems to contradict each other and cannot find any number to speak to anyone on the legal position. Any advice?

You have to isolate 10 days from first symptoms. Your wife has to isolate 10 days from her first symptoms. Anyone else in household has to isolate for 14 days from YOUR first symptoms, and/or 10 days from their first symptoms.

were you the person who made the rules up? seems like you understand them. Not spoken to anyone else who does or complies with what they might be.

Which is why I'm have complete sympathy for the OP. The Track and Trace notifications have legal ramifications if ignored, but when they're giving you incorrect information it makes things very confusing. Combine that with pressure to work and just generally being able to sustain yourself, it's a farce.

There's been numerous cases of student households where every occupant gets a call everytime a housemate is tested positive. There's no cross checking in the database that someone has already been notified or which restrictions they are under.

Would anyone know if you simply ignored the self isolation?

Obviously I'm leaving the moral argument aside here. Is anyone going to check? Would anyone know you've tested positive? Could you pass off your couple of days lying low as a bit of an upset tummy/sniffles?

Suppose the answer to that (ie everyone ignoring it) is that we'd all be in a bit of a pickle, morals notwithstanding.

Moreso than we are already? I'm not sure how many people now, as opposed to earlier in the year, would bother with isolating for 10 days/two weeks. I see a lot of people out and about in this current 'lockdown' who probably have no business doing so if they were to follow guidelines exactly.

That would be dependent on someone not listing you as a close contact if they were suspected, and you not being traced through a sign-in at a cafe/restaurant etc (in Wales you now need to provide ID).

Popping to the supermarket or out for exercise is unlikely to get you caught.

So the Isle of Man is “COVID free” ish!

Several hundred students have come back from uni over the last few weeks and are self isolating at home. Hope they are, because this was last nights Christmas lights switch on!

We have the same in Guernsey, quite a lot of hate here for the students, people paranoid about them sneaking out spreading the virus, load of bks if you ask me.

a friends son had been in contact with some one who tested positive for covid, now waiting his results, but his work advised to still come in as he had no symptons!!
