Infected mozzie bite. Can i go in the sea?

Hi all.

Ive got mosquito bites on my leg and one became infected and filled with pus. (nice)

Im booked in to go dinghy sailing tomorrow afternoon which id really like to do.

Whats the risk of getting a more serious infection?

Ive been and bought some large waterproof plasters today, and shouldnt spend too long in the water (mostly launching the boat).

I sea swim every day with all sorts of bites cuts and bruises, never a problem.

Salt water can be. Sea water can have a lot of other stuff in there.

I always get battered by mosquitoes when I'm on holiday and found sea water a massive relief to dip into. As previous poster said there could be other crap in there but the salt definitely helps. If it's a blister, which I always tend to get a few of, just sterilise a pin or needle, pop it and swab with either salt water or something antiseptic you've got from a chemist. Personally I wouldn't cover it with a plaster, just burst it get in the sea and crack on with your hols. Ime sun and salt are great medicine for nasty bites.

Sea water i would be ok with, stuff that grows/infects in sea water doesnt do too well in fresh water/human body, and vice versa.

Fresh water id be more cautious

Get it lanced/squeezed out and go for it. Film the squeezing and put it on YouTube. It’s a thing apparently.
