An Eye health supplement.

Recommended by my Optician and not something that he sells himself.

Has anyone tried this? Is it likely to be beneficial?

I am not a doctor, but there’s quite a bit of research evidence that the combination of lutein etc. can reduce the risk of macular degeneration.

This is the page to read, but it's a bit heavy going

AREDS2 is the gold standard formulation for macula support supplements.
Yes they work and are well worth considering if you are at risk of macular compromise, be it lifestyle (stop smoking!) or genetic or you just have early drusen or other non sight threatening signs of ARMD.

Bear in mind you are committing to ongoing use as the effects are cumulative so it's not cheap but what cost your vision later in life.
I use Actase Lutein ZA which can be a bit cheaper and was my choice as best compromise between cost and formulation.

I take them every day. Light colour eyes are more susceptible to sun damage. Growing up in the 80s before decent eye wear, the optician (during my first visit to an optician at 41) spotted some damage and advised me to take it to help fix the damage and to stop further damage. Going blind isn't great, so take it if you need it!
