Hi,

I have a family member who lives alone, is independent, but is a bit infirm. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a decent system where I could put a SOS button in the bathroom and toilet etc.. so if they had an issue they don’t need to have a phone with them. We’re only 5 mins away - I spose if we didn’t pick up, a call to emergency services would be useful!

Lots of stuff out there - but wondering if anyone has any good recommendations!!

Thank you.

Could an Apple watch be a solution here? Some have 4G so don't need wifi. Looking at getting one for my father for this very reason.

FIL used Tunstall Lifeline. Worked perfectly - their call centre could talk to him wherever he’d fallen over in the house and made sure someone responded.

I'm in a similar situation with a relative, and have looked at the Apple watch, but it's just too complicated for what it's needed for.

Currently looking at alternatives, but would suggest something he can wear on his wrist, or on a lanyard, rather than restricting it to a couple of buttons in rooms. There seems to be a few options, all around the £20 a month mark.

I'd be looking at something like this.

I know there should be ways to do this using newer and cheaper tech and I don't mean this to sound the way I fear it might but for the sake of a few quid a month I think I'd want something that is known to "just work" and is proven.

Do they get some support from the council? If so they probably have a community alarm service. Usually a pendant that can be worn round the neck with a big button to press if they get stuck and need some help. It hooks up to the phone line and calls the contact centre. If they can't get a response they can call you or send a carer round the check on them.

My mum has one of the older Argenti at home systems, she wears it as a pendant, it has a fall alert.
It generally works well, if it detects a fall and they get no response they ring an ambulance and then call me. It has worked very well on the number of occasions it has been needed. She manages to get it free through the council, if she did have to pay I think it was possibly a bit cheaper if done through the council as they have a bulk contract.

It is really simple just the alert button, I think it goes up to about 300ft so covers the garden as well and the battery lasts years. My dad had a gps unit (a few years ago, can’t remember the make), it needed charging every few days so when he did go awol he’d forgotten to take it with him.

Thanks for the ideas, chaps.

Asking the council is a good idea actually. Thank you!
