Use liquid spray, not the creams. Dry almost instantly and don't run anywhere. They're not cheap but they're ideal. Amazon has a good price on this one,

Reimann ones also very good. Waterproof for a long time. Spray into hand and apply. Don't spray into eyes, bad.

Another vote for the sprays above. Just got back from two weeks in the US including California, spent many hours outside sweating my arse off and it did wonders.
