Firstly, sorry if this has already been covered.

I'm turning 40 in a few months, and my receding hairline isn't slowing down. The front is fine, it's the sides that are slowly working their way backwards. Rather than give in I thought I'd take a look into some of these treatments, the problem is there's so many now, just a quick Google brings up:

Manual
For hims
Dr Hair
Hair and me
etc etc

Are these all much of a muchness? I imagine the active ingredients of each treatment is the same, just with different levels of marketing behind them. I've read a few studies that suggests that Minoxidil & Finasteride are the most effective treatments, when taken together. Is it just a case of finding a treatment that contains these ingredients?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Minoxidil & Finasteride (and dutaseride) are all available as cheap generics and they are the only proven treatments. However a simple multivitamin or two is good insurance in case your diet is deficient in something.

Everything else you list is overpriced nonsense.

The Finasteride is easy enough to find for £14~ for 28 tablets, the Minoxidil seems to be the more expensive one, and comes in each spreay/foam or a tablet. I've found a company offering both for £30/mth combined. Seems about the cheapest I can see

Check the side effects of those tablets, I'd rather go bald than be unable to get a hard on

Oh christ! Yeah, just looked on the NHS website for the top 3 most common side effects of Dutasteride & Finasteride, that'll be a no from me then! I assume these side effects would stop if treatment was stopped though?

Looks like I'll just be concentrating on the Minoxidil spray/foam then.

I've never had any sides, like the vast majority of people, and there is no evidence that if people do have sides they are not completely reversible.

Been on both for 10 years+, mid 30’s, no sides, pretty much full head of hair

Have a look into PRP and (the more recent) iPRF https://www.perplexity.ai/page/prp-treatment-for-h...

It's very effective. And because it's just using your own blood, no unpleasant side effects.

I have used Minoxidil foam (I stock up on the Walmart version when I visit the US once a year) for the last 20 years and it has slowed my hair loss.

I did try Finasteride but within a few days experienced really bad depression including suicidal thoughts, which was really scary. I stopped immediately and felt better within a few days. I'm sure it works but I obviously couldn't continue with it. I seem to be really sensitive to medication though.

I'm presuming the NHS/GP are not prescribing Finasteride for hair loss? It's primary prescription use is for enlarged prostate
