Hi, as title. I fractured a cheekbone on New years day. Side effects have been a non-stop headache ever since, toothache through the night, which are both unpleasant, but not something I can't cope with. However, I now have a noise that sounds like blood pumping constantly in my left ear, which is the affected side. I could do without this, and am wondering if this is something that's likely to be a permanent side effect of the injury, or if I can live in hope that it's temporary.

Anyone with any experience of this?

I have no experience of this but I would suggest you see a doctor about it ASAP.

Hi, thanks. I've already spent several hours having this attended to in Southampton General, including an inconclusive X ray leading to a follow up appointment yesterday for a CT scan, the outcome of which concluded that, while fractured, treatment was deemed unnecessary, and the break would heal itself. The injury itself isn't painful. I obviously mentioned the tinnitus to all those who I spoke to, very little was said about it, leading me to assume nothing serious had been detected. It's just an unpleasant and intrusive side effect.

I think you might need to see someone in the context of sudden onset tinnitus, rather than I fractured my jaw and by the way I aklso have tinnitus now. I'm not saying don't tell them about the fracture, but I think it does matter. According to that video there is a tinnitus clinic so it's obviously a problem that affects enough people and is deemed serious enough to need a clinic.

But take heart - there are comments on the video where people said they had this kind of tinnitus and it cleared itself up after a time.

Cheers. I'm meant to be flying to Dubai on Thursday, asked the staff treating me about this, and was issued with a " fit to fly " certificate to present to my travel insurers, as the policy ran out yesterday. Other than the headache, which is constant, but which is gradually improving, the tinnitus is the overbearing issue. I'm very much hoping your comment about it clearing up by itself proves to be accurate.
