Parking at St Thomas Hospital - London

I'll be picking up a relative from St Thomas's in a few weeks time following a heart op, a colleague in passing mentioned pick-up/drop off & parking at the hospital can pretty much be a no-go at certain times of the day.

Has anyone experienced this? and does anyone have any hidden gems of waiting areas nearby or short-stay parking alternatives?

There's a few good options on Parkopedia nearby as well as the hospital. When my wee one was born and had to stay in for a bit I was in and out a lot in my Impreza. No issues
