Looking for someone to replace the missis’s knee after a relatively minor NHS meniscus op worsened her situation thanks to delays in the system and the sudden non-availability of the No 1 consultant at the crucial moment. She’s now facing a minimum 2 year wait in Wales for a new NHS knee.
To be honest we’ve lost faith with the NHS and are going to bite the private bullet. We’ve been told of a bloke in Bath nicknamed Neil The Knee who’s supposed to know his stuff. Any other private recommendations, ideally within rehab driving distance of mid-Wales?
I’ve mentioned cut-price Lithuanian options to the missis but she is not interested.
TIA

Whilst he’s no where near you, I can’t recommend David Stock (www.davidjstock.co.uk) enough.

He’s performed an ACL reconstruction, an ACL retightening and hip surgery (pin required to hold it all together) on me due to injuries, knee was elective, the hip wasn’t!

He’s very well regarded and a really good bloke and his work (for me) has been top notch.

Thank you, that is really useful, some good explanations on that website and Northampton is doable, it’s about 3hrs from us.

Similar distance would be Prof. Tim Briggs, who's at the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital in Stanmore. https://www.rnoh.nhs.uk/health-professionals/consu...

I saw Prof. Briggs privately years ago, so I'm not sure if he's still seeing patients regularly, but he left a permanent impression on me!

I've heard good things about Neil the Knee too.

I've had two knee replacements, done by different surgeons.

I can recommend this guy - based in Reading.

He had a really good bedside manner. I had a full knee replacement and attended a music festival 18 days later.

Thanks Slow and Bill, I’m getting the impression that there might not be any dodgy operators in this field, which is good.
Has anyone any knowledge of robot assisted knee ops? The results are supposed to be better by virtue of the work being more precise.

There is a private hospital in Salisbury I wouldn't recommend.

A friend also had an issue there.

Interested to hear as well if that's ok. It's quite local to me.

For anyone interested, I had my full knee replaced under the NHS at The private Highfield hospital in Rochdale, nearly two years ago.

No problems since, and the surgeon was brilliant. Best thing I've ever done. Thanks to The Doc on here for after op advice.

Genuine nice guy and very good at what he does. Sorted out my left knee almost 20 years ago.

Richard Carrington is one of the guys who helped develop the robotic computerised knee replacements, works at RNOH in Stanmore and privately at the Wellington in St Johns wood https://www.carringtonhipandknee.com/robotic-surge...

He re surfaced my hip 18 years ago and it's still going strong
