Gallstones and pancreatitis
Discussion
Partner only 32 had sudden onset of pain back in the summer and gallstones detected by US scan in October. Had a very bad episode mid November which was a blocked bile duct, the buildup into his liver caused jaundice and nausea. Seriously dehydrated etc. Stabilised in hospital over a few days and GB out within the week.
Unfortunately a few days later I’d to rush him back as he’d worst pain ever and was grey. Morphine the lot didn’t mask the pain. Never got to bottom of it but suspected stone left behind blocked the bile duct and eventually passed.
Three months on he’s like a new man. If they offer to remove it don’t delay as it’s the best option.
My SIL is murdered with hers and wants to go private and pay thousands but they won’t do it until she’s got approval from NHS consultant and she’s been waiting I think 18 months so far for that. Nightmare scenario and polar opposite experience.

Had it a few years ago. It was pretty painful. The anguish is a bit less when you know that it's gallstones and not something like some bizarre gut-melting phenomenon, the beginnings of spontaneous combustion or whatever your imagination can think of. The gallbladder got removed. You then have to adjust to the fact that you no longer have that little reserve of bile to break down larger-than-normal intakes of fat - an oily curry will go through like greased lightning. In extremix it will be like you're shotcreting the bowl with Korma.
I'd say kidney stones is a bit more painful, in the scheme of things.

Yeo. Worst thing ever. I had it four years ago - the worst pain imaginable, violent vomit out of the blue and straight to A&E. Diagnosed pancreatitis with gallstones blocking the bile duct. Gallbladder removed by keyhole surgery within the week, recovery within two weeks and been right as rain ever since. Don’t worry about the surgery (if keyhole, it’s a doddle).

I was blue lighted twice until being eventually diagnosed with stones, thank God after having the bladder out I’ll not have to deal with that again.Gassing Station | Health Matters | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
