Anyone take Tamsulosin (Max Flow)?
Discussion
I was on it for 6 years. It will take a couple of weeks to take effect.
It helped me for about 4 years but it didn't make a huge difference and results vary a lot.
There are other medications if it doesn't work.
Off it now as I had HOLEP procedure Jan 2025.
I put a thread up about it.
Edit I had no side effects.

Have you had a review or bladder scan in that time.
When I started to see my consultant he said I'd been on it too long, and when I had a scan they found I was retaining 380ml and I had two diverticulum.

No review, nothing, only thing I had was a PSA test last year and that was only because I requested it Have you had a review or bladder scan in that time.

I ve been on them for 4 months but don t feel they are working as I still have weak flow, go often and get up twice a night for a wee.
I m getting an appointment to see if they can increase the dose or switch me to Finasteride but that one can have side effects of making hair regrow and can cause erection problems and dry orgasms.

Hair regrowth would be a positive for most blokes lol.I m getting an appointment to see if they can increase the dose or switch me to Finasteride but that one can have side effects of making hair regrow and can cause erection problems and dry orgasms.
The other side effects can happen with either medication
My pal was on Tamsulosin for the frequency and presumably slow flow rate given he has an enlarged prostate. He tells me they caused dry orgasms so he switched to Finasteride and back to normal with the support of a blue pill when needed. I've not enquired about flow rate but I get the impression he's still up several times a night and the frequent need to go during the day which, for me would question their efficacy. His intention is to avoid surgery at all costs given the risks.
I could probably do with them but as my frequency is during the day (I can go all night without needing to get up for a pee) and sometimes needing to go again 30mins after I've just been I can manage it for now.

Got put on dutasteride/tansulosine on Wednesday after a consultation with a gp ,I've gone from dribbling 5 times a night to pissing like a race horse after one dose ,absolutely unbelievable.
Not noticed any unwanted sides ,yet.
Psa is OK, gps confident it's only bph and not cancerous but have some further investigations to confirm

I was on it for a couple of years with no side effects, but it became less effective over time. I was then switched to Combodart. From Google: that combines two drugs to shrink the prostate (dutasteride) and relax prostate muscles (tamsulosin), reducing symptoms and the risk of acute urinary retention.
Works well for me, and the only side effect I experience is dry orgasms but I don't mind that.

My experience associated with Tamsulosin.
If you get to the stage of needing a catheter, waiting for the TURP operation, you might find it is a very long NHS wait, without any explanation about timescale.
I was slow to realise, after a sequence of appointments, that stalling tactics were going on.
Eventually I reached for the cheque book and the successful surgery was complete within two weeks.
What a relief. I wished I had done that 10 months earlier.
The cost was well worth it.
