Anyone on Metformin for type 2 diabetes?
I was on 200mg a day, 4 x 50mg, never had any diabetes symptoms at all, been on them nearly 10 years. It has got to the stage whereby the side affects are something that i dont want to put up with anymore. Constantly wanting to go to the loo and when you need to go, it needs to be right away!
Anyone else have these issues? Is there an alternative?

Yep
I was on them for about 3 months, diarrhoea ensued after a few weeks and got worse.
Came off metformin lost 2.5 st ,changed my diet ,entered trt protocol ,no longer pre diabetic.
Bhp reared it's head above the parapet recently ,controlled by dustasteride/tamulosin(sp)
Great getting old isn't it!!!

Been on it for many years and cant say i've ever experienced any noticable side effects.
Same here. Been on them since 2014 first 500mg and now 1000mg per day. My blood glucose wasn't falling even though I've been on a very strict eating regime for many years so have now been given a SGLT2 (Dapagliflozin) to bring it down and I also take 1000mg of Berberine a day which also lowers blood glucose. Will see in June when I have my next blood test if the extra efforts have had any effect. Was on the old style met about 21 years ago as a fertility drug due to having PCOS, it was dreadful as OP is experiencing. Could not take my morning dose until I had reached the office because I knew within the hour I would need facilities the car did not have! This resulted in a pregnancy that became a gestational pregnancy so I was injecting insulin towards the end.
Fast forward 18 years and it was inevitable I would become type 2 due to the PCOS and now Fibromyalgia so I am back on Met, I take Sukkarto slow release and it is so much better these days. I have no issues due to the met but other reasons I need to keep within a close distance of facilities at times

Have been on them for nearly 2 years now... originally it was a bit (s)hit & miss
Originally the Doc wanted me to build up to 4/day (along with insulin & gliclazide) and each time I increased the dose it had the 'effect'. Now only on Metformin 2 x 500mg (morning/night).
I still occasionally get the 'metformin effect' but thankfully it is a rare occurrence, probably once every month or two.
Type 2 diabetes has been in the family for the last two generations (mothers side) and once I was diagnosed/confirmed my original figures were 124mmol/13.5% then 12 months later was down to 48mmol/6.5%.
I opted for a (drastic) diet change... made use of the Freestyle Libre monitor for three months, basically to work out what I could/couldn't eat to keep the levels down. Basically, low carb, no/low 'of which sugars', no bread, no pasta, no potato... took about 2 months for the 'hunger' to reduce but now I no longer feel the need/urge to eat and am more of a 'grazer'.
The monitor helped me work out what I could have as 'treats' that didn't raise the levels too much, or didn't hang up there for too long. Equally, it showed me that eating things in a certain order helped... veg & meat and then sneak in a small Yorkshire pud whilst the body wasn't looking
I buy bread/bakery from Heylo, not the cheapest but I no longer ram down toast at breakfast, sandwich at lunch, etc. I have made my own bread (almond flour) but by the time you have ingredients, etc. it works out about the same as Heylo (who just had 25% off yesterday... so a bulk buy and freeze).
Aldi do have some 'keto' pasta in now and again... sauce doesn't stick to it as well as normal pasta and can be a bit 'cardboardy' but gives you a fix.
Beer... being Pistonheads... former Porsche driver Richard Westbrook now owns a brewery and produces some mighty fine beers... Laguna has 1gram of carbs per 400ml can. Putting it into perspective my go to drink was Guinness... 'so carb for carb' it is either 12 cans of Laguna or 1 pint of Guinness..!
Strayed from the original question a little, but the change of diet has meant losing around 10kg... and I sit on my backside in front of a computer all day.

I'm on 2x 1000mg daily.
My BS was a bit out of control so they added Gliclizide and Dapagliflozin but the side effects of Metformin were just depressing me they were that bad, not wanting to go out etc.
They prescribed Mounjaro to me 5 weeks ago and that has made things so much better, im still on Metformin but with less 'issues' and my BS is lower and more consistent

I was on metaformin until I was recently admitted to A & E, and was put in an induced coma for two weeks. I had a large abscess in my neck, which was very difficult to operate on.
They put me on insulin 40mg once a day.
I am now on mounjaro and take 25mg once a day, so much better than the metaformin.

Had my review yesterday, had dropped from 2000 to 1000 a day due to side affects as previously mentioned.
Side affects much improved but, blood sugar has increased from 57 to 69.
Tried to discuss alternatives with the nurse but, she did not seemed to be very clued up! Going to consult her colleague and get back to me. Will update after next review.
