Garden critters - I've been feasted on.

It may just be me, or the area I live, but I've never known myself getting bitten by flying critters as much as I have over the past two evenings.

Was out on Sunday evening watering a few of the plants, came back in and noticed I had been bitten on the ankle.
Woke up Monday morning to a very swollen ankle / foot and a dull pain all the way up my leg - Christ knows what had bitten me.

Decided to plod on yesterday evening after work and get some more gardening done - I've been done again. Both legs and a few bites on my hands.

Maybe its a sign - I just need to avoid gardening! Or to wear full PPE next time.

Sounds like a Horse Fly. Stuff yourself on Antibiotics and use Antibiotic ointment. Some people react VERY badly to them, so if it gets worse get thee down the A & E/Docs.

I used to fly model aircraft in Norfolk and Horse flies loved me around the sleeves of a T shirt, ankles you name it. I reacted quickly but healed fairly quick. But a mate got zapped just below his eye. When he went to A & E and they went into serious melt down....

I was up walking in The Lakes a couple of weeks ago, and I have never seen that amount of horseflies before, bloody hundreds of them. I had taken precautions though, but I could feel them bouncing off my skin, rather than landing. Still managed a few bites, even though the DEET was slathered on.

They do seem worse than normal. Dad lives up there and he was saying some of the cows look a right mess with 100's of bites.

Horseflies are a menace, savage little things.

Any time I’ve been bitten by a horse fly I’ve known about it straight away, immediate pain.

I think the hot and then wet weather seems to have brought the critters out. I’ve got marks on my legs and backs of my hands for over a week ago, improving but still there.
