An interesting research study with the usual caveat 'more research is needed' buy I'm surprised it hasn't gained greater awareness. Whilst these vaccines are free on the NHS for the over 65 (or vulnerable) if you're not eligible the Shingles vaccine is near £500 on it's own!

I'm questioning whether to wait until 65 or take some preventative measures now? Has anyone studied this in depth and taken action?

[i]Recent large-scale observational studies show that routine adult vaccines are associated with a 25% to 55% reduction in the risk of developing dementia or Alzheimer's disease.

Key Vaccines Linked to Lower Dementia Risk:

- Shingles (Herpes Zoster): Associated with a 20% to 40% lower risk of dementia. Newer recombinant options like Shingrix show particularly strong potential in extending dementia-free time. ( Harvard health recommend this for adults 50 and over!)

- Influenza (Flu): Regular annual flu vaccination is linked to up to a 40% lower risk of Alzheimer's, with high-dose formulations showing potential risk reductions of up to 55% in recent preliminary studies.

- RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus): Newer RSV vaccines (such as Arexvy) have been linked to a 29% reduction in dementia risk over an 18-month window, potentially aided by shared immune adjuvants.

- Tdap/Td (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis): Associated with a roughly 30% reduction in developing Alzheimer's or general dementia over long-term follow-ups.

- Pneumococcal: Linked to a 27% lower risk of Alzheimer's disease and broader cognitive protection.[/i]

Weird. Any thoughts why these vaccines are linked to this? Or is it a case of causation vs correlation?

No idea, it's part of a study of 1M+ people I'm led to believe. Sky News apparently reported on it earlier this year but the conclusion was 'more research is needed'.

You would think if it had traction the NHS would be behind it and offer the vaccines free for those under 65, the positive benefits as reported would reduce the impact on social care etc down the line?
