I have noticed a pattern ,if I drive for more than an hour in the day ,I can expect cramp in my left shin during the early hours !
For information I drive an auto so my left leg does very little .
Tried all the generic cramp stuff most of which isn't compatible with other important medication I have to take . The one thing that does seem to prevent it is daily consumption of Indian Tonic water ,the genuine stuff with quinine in it . Have it with lime juice/ cordial and ice .
Anyone with other tricks to avert the very painful attacks?

Have you tried Magnesium tablets? My fiancée suffers with terrible cramps, especially at night and the only thing that works is Magnesium. I can't remember the exact one she gets but Holland and Barrett have the right stuff in.

It's one of the things I have to be wary of .
Cancer ,cardiac and stroke meds along with type two diabetes and being 70+ isn't fun . I obviously should have read the small print about getting old !

There isn't a lot to recommend getting old is there. I hope that you find something that works for you as cramps are not on the fun list at all.

I do have a small hand held rechargeable massager, looks like a porno sex toy , . Use it after a spasm to ease the after effects which sometimes last for a couple of days .

You could try massaging thingy before bed just to relax the muscles.

Slightly cautionary tale as I had similar 3 weeks ago and didn't work out too well for me.

I'd already been down with flu for 2 weeks or so and had noticed a pain in my left leg when leaving work, alongside some breathlessness.

Woke at 4am to what left like cramp in my left leg, got up to stretch it and collapsed, had a few seizures on the bedroom floor as my wife called an ambulance. Turns out on top of the flu (which had become pneumonia) I'd had a DVT which the clot spread to a pulmonary embolism, leaving parts of the clot in my heart valve (which had a strain from passing what it could, leaving the rest clotted there). A day in resus and a week on a "don't leave the bed or you may go into cardiac arrest" in the acute care ward and I'm out.

I'm 37 and had never had any medical issues - if persistent get yourself checked out.

Did you have the Covid vaccine by any change? Lots of data on increase in DVT’s post vaccines, my dad had one last year also, very active and never had a single issue in his life until post vaccines of which he had them all at the time.

As for the OP, try electrolytes before bed, salt, potassium etc. As mentioned above try a banana with some sea salt on it before bed.

Not had any since the 2 AZN's (had a A&E trip then with DVT symptoms) in 2020

Hopefully you have better access to health care than we do in my area. I was speaking to my neighbour last week and he told me that he had just spent 14 hours in Urgent Care with a bad bout of Diverticulitis.

He arrived at 7pm on Tuesday evening. Whilst he was there he was talking to an 80 year old man who was there for nearly the same amount of time before giving up and going home. He had already been to Blackburn hospital with high blood pressure and discharged. His blood pressure was 217 over something in the low 100s and had settled down to 200 over @ 100 by the time he left.

Seems like a pretty sorry affair to me.
