I first developed it in my teens, and the local NHS 'specialist' told me I'd have to get used to it. It was the sound of church bells ringing far away, and waves crashing on a beach.Very faint, but noticeable.That was 30 years ago, and I did get used to it, then six months ago it suddenly got a lot worse, real high pitched ringing noise, like several tuning forks moving around by my ears. I saw a specialist again this January, and he told me I'd have to get used to it......
I rode big loud motorcycles for many years when younger, which probably did it no good, but I got a bike again last year and couldn't believe how noisy the wind was, so started wearing ear plugs straight away.
I don't think there is any connection between buying the Harley last year and the tinnitus getting worse, as I wore the ear plugs from the start.
I work offshore in a noisy environment, but again, I always wear ear protection when in engine rooms etc. Even at home, when grinding and hammering and stuff in the garage, I have my ear defenders on.
From the research I did recently tinnitus CAN just appear for no good reason. It is not always noise related.
not realted to yours but I goto a lot of gigs and I saw a hearing specialist and he said if you have rining in your ears after a noisy activity it is a sign of some damage happening to your ear
I bought a pair of custom made earphones for future gigs - thought they dont reduce the quality of the sound they do reduce the feel slightly as there is a barrier between you and the raw sound.
but as people say, worth taking care of your hearing to prevent this kind of thing if possible.

I have riden a motorcycle as a hobby since I was 16 and have worn earplugs for the last years.
I have a hissing in my left ear which is worse when I am tired and started at the same time as I temporarily lost the sight in my left eye.
I guess it is another symptom of my benign MS.
I don't think biking has caused this buy how would I go about getting a hearing check?

I developed a loud high pitched whistle in both ears after a whiplash injury a couple of years ago - seems strange but aparently it can happen.
I've been given white noise generators - just like hearing aids but a different function - to wear for a few hour a day. They work by fooling the brain into adjusting the threshold of the low limit of hearing. Tinnitus won't go away with them but they do seem to help quite a lot.
I'm told Tinnitus in my case is permanent - nothing can be done - you just have to learn to cope with it.
Generally and certainly in my case it's a lot worse when you are tired / pissed / or come away from a noisy environment to somewhere quiter.
