Does anyone carry an epi-pen for anything? I should have one for my severe allergy to bee and wasp stings. My old one went past its sell by date a while ago and I havent renewed it bcause I know that they are expensive. Any advice on where to get them cheaper than the £35 that I have paid before?

(I know that I value my life at more than £35 but I am having to shell out for a £150 car seat for my little girl this month. The same month that the wasps and bees are out in our garden with a vengence.)

Any help appreciated. Ta.

Ask your GP to issue an NHS prescription for a new one. The old one will be useless.

Another flaw in the NHS thinking, that a life saving device must be bought and paid for, or done without. Similar to Salbutamol inhalers for folk with Asthma. Bloody ridiculous.

Yet the fatties who eat their weight in lard week in week out (and end up with Type II diabetes) get all the meds they need and for feck all frown

They won't do that for me. I was diagnosed (went into casualty with my top lip well within my field of vision) when I was 19 and out of full-time education. Therefore I have to pay full price rather than pay the nominal £7.50 or whatever it is. If I was diagnosed whilst under the age of 18 or still in full time education, it would be a free "refill" everytime it's past its use by date.

I have a severe wasp venom allergy, I have to carry Ventolin, dispersible steriods and an epi-pen. My last set of replacement drugs added up to £26!

Your prescription epi-pen should only be £7 whatever it is these days.

Get to your GP! By the time help arrives during an anaphylaxsis it might be too late!

I find this thread very odd.

To the OP, sort your priorities out.

Don't be a tt. Do you know the OP's circumstances? £185 is a fair few quid for some people to find. Even if it could potentially save your life.

It's not £185, it's £35.

I dont even know where £35 comes from, I was only diagnosed 3 years ago and just pay the standard prescription fee for mine.

If you read the OP's post you would know where the £185 has come from and also that he has made his priorities pretty clear.

Thank you BGB autosport that is pretty much what I would have said. thumbup

And mattt, for what it's worth I value my little girls life above mine, which means that she will have a correctly fitted car seat that is at the top of it's class in safety.

I have a doctors appt for wed so I will let you guys know what gets said.

You've got all that a bit confused. Go to your GP and ask for a prescription. The pharmacy will charge you £7.20. (We often dispense Epipens)

Problem solved wink

That's what the current plan of action is, it was also the last plan of action when the pharmacy charged me 35 notes. Maybe I was had over?

I will let you know what goes on on wed.

Cheers for the advice PD

You're welcome smile
£35 would have been the charge for a private prescription (ie non-NHS where the patient the full cost of the drugs+ a fee to the pharmacy)a few years back. It'd be over £40 now, but you should get an NHS script ok.

You've just reminded me mine has gone out of date, a quick call to my GP's office and there will be a prescription for a new one at my local chemists on Friday afternoon, £7.50 or whatever it is now

Apparently Vicky was a touch alarmed when I rang and said "I'm fine but have just been ambulanced to the trackside medical centre where the French equivalent of Sid Watkins has just given me an adrenaline shot to stop me choking to death on my own tongue"

Can't think why hehe
