There were some articles a few weeks ago when Lawrance Lewellin Boweyn's wife lost 5 stone in 5 months with them. I personally think it's too severe, I think I read it was 500 calories a day. Apparently anything less than 800 is very dangerous.
Personally if I were you, I would work out your BMR (what calories your body uses in a day and then set a sensible level below that). Note though that your BMR is not your BMI.
To burn 1lb of fat you need a deficit of 3,500 calories. So if you eat 500 calories a day less than your body uses then after 1 week you should have lost 1lb. I am dieting at the moment (what women isn't) and I have lost 7.4 kgs in 5 weeks, by dieting as above.

My mum did it, with good results to be fair.
How healthy it is, I am not so sure. I forget the name but you send your body into 'starvation mode' which suppresses your hunger. Until you forget like my Mum and eat an M&M which brought back the 'f
k me I haven't eaten for 13 days, sound the hunger alarm' problem

A woman I know did it. Sixty-odd quid a week for your 'food' and you starve yourself slimmer.
However, she did say that the 'support' that goes with the diet really helped her get through it, to the extent that it was instrumental in her completing the course and achieving her weight goals.
So, I guess it's good in that you don't feel that it's just 'you against the world'.

Both my wife and my sister have done the Lighter Life with some great results.
Both found it hard going to start but got used to it..
BUT...sister carried on with the maintenance after the 'shakes and soups' diet and has kept the weight off but my wife didnt do the maintenance and has put back on a majority of the weight again...
So, it is important to wean yourself back ONTO food again to from what I can see..
I also need to lose weight but cant see the chances of me sticking to just water, power shakes and powder soups for 6 months..;)
It is also important to ensure you get your doctor to give clearance to start Ligther Life and ensure you go to the classes for them to check your doing well.

I joined slimming world in mid feb. To date I have lost over 2.5 stone on a simple to follow eating plan - certainly don't need to count calories, restrict portion sizes etc. I have also increased my exercise only moderately to be honest. Try and walk more, play 5 a side once a week and get out on my bike when I can. It works for me anyway....

It's called ketosis...Have a look at Cambridge Diet which is half the price and the exact same diet, infact lighter life is made by Cambridge Diet..
I've never been on the diet but i've tried all the shakes/bars/soups/tetra's etc.. Chocolate Orange shake is "mmm"

My OH did Lighter Life last year and lost three stone. Very good result, but it is hard initially. Easy to do in some respects as you stop eating normal food which removes all the decisions anbout what's good or bad. This can also help 'recalibrate' your portion ideas and to study nutrition a little on the weekly group get togethers.
You will need a clean bill of health from your doctor as pointed out.
Whilst she was doing LL, I pinched a few of her sachets each day and did a sort of half and half process of shakes and a proper dinner each night albeit fish and vegetables only (no carb based food- potatoes, pasta and so on). I also stopped drinking which for me made quite a difference alone! I too lost three stone then, and feel massively better for it
The Elise's seats are just rght now!
I have not had a drink for 12 months now! As a result my weight has stayed good and I feel bright and light. Maintenance will be any weight loser's longer term goal IMO, and this needs very careful observation post diet. I do this in the main by being careful of carb's.
HTH, Good luck.

the woman who 'invented' the diet is as big as a planet.
Because she knows cutting out carbs is for idiots? Smart woman.

FFS. EAT LESS, TAKE GENTLE EXERCISE.
How many calories did you intake today ? More than 1500 ? How far did you walk ? To the car ?
Borrow a dog and take it for a hour walk every day. Suggest you contact help the aged or your local church and see if some old biddy needs your help.
We got a small dog about 15 months ago, and at the same time I cut out supper and sugar in my coffee, and crisps and chocolate and takeways.
There are clothes I've not worn since the early 90's that now fit me. 3 Stone I've lost.
It's not hard.
