Was playing a drunken game at a party whereby you are required to pickup a small cardboard box off the floor with your mouth, but are only allowed to use your feet for support.

Went for a "splits" position (I cannot and never was able to do the splits, but am pretty flexible)
at the last inch my left shoe lost grip and i ended up doing the splits and winning the game.

What nobody has noticed however is that something inside my left leg has ripped so hard i thought my trousers ripped reverberating all the way to my temples.

Anyway it's been about 3 months now and it doesn't seem to have healed. The leg is sore during some activities (sprinting is one of them) and gets really bad when driving for a prolonged period of time. 100 miles of driving gives me a numb pain all the wa from the inside of my thigh to the knee (really "looking forward" to a 1300mile trip through europe tomorrow morning...)

Should I see a doctor or does it just take ages to heal?

I'm no expert but having suffered from a torn Achilles tendon, I can tell you that this type of injury takes a long time to heal by itself and can be helped by physiotherapy and other intervention.

Go see your Doc and get referred. All the better if you have private medical cover.

Did the same thing playing that game. I would advise not going for the splits unless you can actually do the splits. Perhaps you should have asked on PH before playing? biggrin

Anyway, it took ages to heal... maybe 6 months with rest. So stop running.

sounds liek you are better off going straight to a physio - privatley they normally cost about £40+ for a first session

I partially rupture my MPFL in my left knee while trying to kick a ceiling light when pissed, I landed on a wooden floor wearing socks! I had some physio on it but didn't diagnose the rupture, I got the all clear and then ruptured it skiing as well as a partial rupture of my ACL.

The first physio wanted to send me to see an orthopedic surgeon, but his boss conviced me it was ok. I wish I had listened!

I suggest you go and see a physio who will be able to look at you legs while running, x-trainering etc and see any inbalance, a good one with a bit of manipulation will find the problem easily. Then it will be down to seeing if it will self heal or need a surgeons input.

You don't mention which lig or joint you think the problem area is. Good luck but don't train on it until it is fixed or you body will overcompensate on surounding tissues which could lead to more damage.

Thanks for all the replies

the pain is in the inside of my left thigh.
as far as I know the ligaments in that area are in a cross position, so tearing or stressing one, does not necessarily make one crippled.

I was away on an active holiday for the last two weeks and the pain has gotten a lot more tolerable.
more importantly the leg did not seem to have given me too much grief on a 2000 mile non-stop drive x2.

Since I CBA to go to a doctor/physio I will give i more time and see if it stops completely.

cheers!

It will. Just don't use it unnecessarily.

I keep injuring things, training through it, setting the injury back 6 months. rolleyes Injured my wrist three years ago, something popped inside when I was doing one too many dynos (flashy climbing move) at a party (yes, I may have been drunk and not warmed up properly and, yes, I may have been showing off a little). After healing for a month or two, it'd feel slightly better, then I'd go climbing and it'd return to its original very painful state. Took two years to heal properly, after stopping hard climbing for about 6-8 months. frown

So save the hassle and just rest it.

This could be so many things, even an adducter tear is painful, I would of thought this would more than likely than a ligament around the hip joint.

But if it plays up see a physio (a good one!) not a doctor.

Could be ham-string or groin without bothering to read all the posts, no harm in getting a little help, but don't go to a gp, there bloody useless on sports injuries, which this just about comes under. I tore my crucite ligament, could hardly walk and the gp said it was just a sprain! Specialist took 10 seconds to diagnose ACL rupture (Anterior Cruciiate Ligament).

Go and see a physio. If you did tear something then you are very likely to have scar tissue where the body has tried to heal, and scar tissue isn't very pliable. The ligament may also have shrunk which may cause injury elsewhere if you don't get it looked at. Either way, a physio will probably have to get their fingers and thumbs into the affected area and you may also be given specific exercises to do.
