Morning all, I am getting extremely stressed out at work today. What do people do to calm themselves down/lower their stress levels during the day? Any advice welcomed!

Not during the day but regular exercise several times a week will do wonders for your stress in general ie you'll find yourself getting less stressed at work.

Sex is a good way of lowering your stress levels.

Just make sure you don't get caught.

Im going to resist the urge to say knock one (angry wk) out in the bathrooms at lunch time and go for some herbal teas as they seem to have natural calmers in them.

There was a thread on this about 3 weeks ago... quite a lot of suggestions. I suggested tai chi.

I found that giving up helped lots. Stop caring. Accept that you've fked your life up beyond belief listening to people you never should have and just sit and stare at the walls all day instead. You get depressed, but on balance I find that being depressed is less painful than being stressed.

I wish I knew. Normally I find exercise and a low carb diet full of fruit and veg help. Currently I can't exercise (or really move at all) which is making me feel much much worse and am stuffed on options

agree to an extent. the key to lowering your stress levels is to either:

a] improve your capacity to cope with your workload - i.e. delegate, more staff, better systems.

b] remove the triggers that are causing you stress, or at least recognise what they are so that you can address them.

c] stop caring.

c is an indicator you need to change jobs/career.

Work out what you're stressed about and then categorise each item in terms of "Can I DO anything about it" - I find that things fall into 3 categories:
1. Stuff I can do something about now
2. Stuff I will be able to do something about sometime
3. Stuff I can't do anything about

For the stuff I can do something about now, I work out what to do and start doing it. For the stuff I can do something about sometime, I work out what I need to be able to take action and try to move towards that. For the stuff I can't do anything about, I accept it and try to stop worrying about it.

Most of this thinking goes on while I'm exercising as I find that is a great way to sort out my head and get things back in proportion.

This may come with the added benefit of additional time off.
