OK, so I've done the "drinking a pint of water from the other side of the glass" thing and it didn't work.

It's been going on for over an hour and I'm now at the stage where I'm severely peed off and actually close to throwing up.

Help me. Please.

Seriously though, if you've got someone who can help you, get them to close your ears for you (not put their fingers IN them, ewww, just close the little flap in the middle.

Then you drink slowly and steadily from a glass of water.

Your ear canals are linked to your sinuses and so on, so you need to close off everything, to keep the pressure in your chest enough to keep the diaphragm forced down (that's what hiccups are, the diaphragm spasming).

This might all be bks, mind, I just know it works biggrin

Have you tried patting your head and rubbing your belly for 20 minutes.

The patting your head and rubbing your belly does nothing but the 20 minutes should.

You just need to give your diaphragm a bit of room - sit/stand up as straight as possible, try and "stretch" your torso as much as you can and puff you chest out but without breathing in too deep, then breathe shallowly and slowly.

Drinking a pint of water from the opposite side of the glass always works for me.

Ginger, it works!

No, I don't mean that you should dye your hair ginger, eat some ginger and the hiccups will go.

Quite a loose definition of "NOW" you've got.

Hope you choke. Or not. Then choke again. Then not. Then...

Drink from a glass of water, but don't just gulp it down - try and time it so you swallow the water at just the point you are about to hiccup.

Or a second method (always works for me but can take a bit to get the knack of doing it):
Hold your breath, and try and tense up your stomach muscles while pulling in your rib cage - think of it as trying to push your lungs down against your diaphragm.

Basically, as has been said, hiccups are spasms in your diphragm. All those two things do is try and stop them, the first one with a jolt, the second by a pressure/tensing.

Hope you get rid of them somehow!

I have just thrown up. Violently and nastily.

However, the hiccups appear to have gone.

Oh, pilchards, by the way.

Doubtful that you've still got the hiccups but this always works:

Spoonful of granulated sugar
Drink a mug full of water without stopping for breath, don't gulp it, just drink it.

There you go then, try the rollmops, they'll sort you out a treat (possibly)
