I'm currently taking vitamin D3 supplements on my own accord as I have psoriasis and people who suffer from this usually have a bit of a deficiency producing the vitamin naturally.

I'm currently taking a combination pill with 10ug (200%RDA), once a day. Also included with the pill is magnesium and calcium. (Both 50% RDA). I would however like to double the number of pills I'm taking to once in the morning and once in the evening but that would take me to 400% RDA for vitamin D.

Is this too much?

I've heard too much of Vit D3, can cause kidney stones so I'd rather like to avoid this.....

Any advice?

P.S. It seems to be working on the psoriasis, reducing the flaking but only a little.....(hence reason to try a little more).

You wont get an answer on here, you'll get some who say 'i take 1 a day and i've never felt better' and others who'll say 'research says that vitamins supplements don't do anything for you'

I say, talk to ya Pharmacist smile

Current thought is quite a lot! Up to 10,000IUs although this isn't much help when you are looking at mass/weight.

Patrick Holford suggests 10 mcg as an optimal daily amount (what you are taking), but also suggests that 5mcgs should come from food. He also states that the toxic amount is pretty high - 1250mcg.

I'd check the packaging to see if you can find the IU (international Unit) equivalent. Some experiments have been giving people single doses of up to 300000 IUs!

Hit Google and look for dosages and side effects.

Remember - RDA values were set as the minimum we need to stop us being ill, not the most appropriate or optimal amounts.

Stick to once a day.
10 micrograms daily is enough to prevent Vitamin D deficiency. Did you take professional advice and have a blood test before starting to take your supplement to establish that you had a Vit D deficiency?
If not, then you are wasting your money by attempting to treat a non-existing condition

According to my last general health check, I'm a little low on Vit.D, but I also suffer from severe scalp psoriasis. One of the main causes of this is a Vit.D deficiency.

Since I've started taking the pills, I've noticed a massive reduction in the amount of flakes, and the skin is beginning to heal up and look normal again. On top of this, I'm using psoria oil which is a herbal oil and in combination, the two seem to be working very well for me.

The biggest worry I have however is too much Vit. D can cause kidney stones which I'd rather not have...

Like I said, current studies seem to indicate that you can take up to 6 times your current dose before it becomes toxic.

Have you done a search online for recent results/thoughts?

A quick scan brings up this...

I also think that I read somewhere that Vit D can help prevent kidney stones, but maybe I read it incorrectly.

I'm glad your condition is improving. I'd still stick at 10 micrograms per day.
