Pretty much as per the title.

I found myself drinking more and more coffee of late and have decided to stop for a while but have read some horror stories...

My last cup was on sunday lunchtime but feel fine at the moment, does this mean its ok or does this mean all hell is about to let loose?

Sounds like you should be fine, I think it's the withdrawal from caffine that is supposed to cause problems.

Yes, I was drinking too much at work, so I stopped drinking it completely 3 years ago now, I don't think I feel better or worse for it tbh.

Why not just cut down unless a GP has told you to stop drinking it?

Just fancied stopping to see what happens (it was coffee or beer so the choice ended there!)

I'm doing my first 10k in Sept so seeing if it helps..

On weekends I dont touch the stuff but during the day I may have between 2 and 5 depending on how tired I am...

used to be hooked on the stuff, but again its just at work and rarely outside, maybe once in a blue moon I will have a sunday morning coffee with the paper but that is about it.

I too was hooked on caffeine, I gave it up but noticed I was getting cravings for other drinks that I did not realise had caffeine in, I eventually gave them up too. So really I weaned myself off it without realising rather than giving up outright.

if you don't touch it you will be less tired. it picks you up for a bit and then throws you down below where you were in the first place. im never tired now
Only issue is I like the flavour of real coffee over most other drinks (decaf is horrible) and other than that I only drink water (beer is not included), so unless there is a good caffeine free subsitute out there then Im afraid Im stuck cause of flavour now...

well, day 4 is over and so far i have had a slight headache and thats it. I do feel better for not having the "i can't perform till i get my first coffee" feeling in the morning...

If it all falls apart over the weekend i'll let you know!

I gave up coffee and tea when I went on a fitness jag about ten years ago. I got sharp headaches for a few days at the start, but that soon faded.

Then one day, after about a year 'dry', I was walking through a shopping mall and I smelt this tantalising smell from a fresh coffee shop. I decided to have a cup of their freshest brewed beverage. Then I had another.

Suddenly my heart started hammering away in my chest and I felt this enormous buzz, like speed. I thought I was about to have a heart attack!

But after that I was 'back on' coffee. Been drinking it ever since, though I don't really know why. I don't drink 'brewed' coffee now though, as it makes me really wired and irritable.

yup, that's an anxiety or panic attack which caffeine can bring on quite easily. Caffeine is a funny drug.
Even just a couple of cups of regular Nescafe instant gets me a bit wired, so I dread to think what the people who drink loads of brewed coffee feel like. maybe it simply doesn't affect some people.

I think caffine is like a lot of substances that the body simply gets used too.

I drink about 5-7 cups a tea everyday and some coffee sometimes.

It's also pretty good for weight loss!

Had to give up for health reasons 1.5 years ago. Took about 3 weeks to get over it, but still find myself yearning over a lovely freshly ground cup...

Have to stick to the decaf, but if I have a couple of cups over a few days it starts to set off the old caffeine triggers. Worse than crack I'm I'm telling you!
