I have been ill for seven years. I have been to a lot of doctors in this time and have had a lot of tests, but nothing conclusive has ever really been found. The general consensus seems to be "CFS".

I'm getting to the point of desperation, and it's getting hard to go on.

The nature of the illness has changed over this time, but I'll give you a run down of how it manifests currently:

It seems to happen every 2-3 weeks, and lasts 7-10 days.

Every couple of weeks, I get lots of sore acne-like spots on my face and scalp. My skin gets really sore, sensitive and very, very oily.

My eyes feel really sore and gritty, like I've got both soap and sand in them. My tongue is very sore (especially at the sides) almost like ulcers, and my throat gets quite sore and "thick" and my tongue is white. Breath is akin to a Turkish wrestler's jockstrap.

I often get bad nausea and pain around the ribs/stomach at the same time, and occasionally upset tummy.

Most of all though, during these ill times, I have a headache that is seriously painful. It feels like someone is sitting on my face (not in a good way!) especially over my brow which feels like it is going to explode, almost like pressure in my eyes. I am also completely, utterly, shattered all the time.

Please, please if anyone has any suggestions, please help.

If you've seen several doctors, I'm not sure what you're expecting from us. All I can think is look at your diet; is there some kind of intolerance you haven't considered? (But surely the doctors would have looked at that as well?) Are you otherwise fit and healthy? (Again, if you're 20 stones then the doctors would have commented.) I would say "speak to your GP" but...

I would say that the symptoms the OP describes suggest quite strongly that they are suffering from being a woman.

To be honest, it's no good asking people on here to comment without either being medically skilled or knowing more about you.

You really should either go back to your doctor or get a second view from another medical practitioner.

Good luck and hope you get it sorted!

Maybe just seeking further opinion. An idea from someone that hasn't so far been considered. A test that might give me some answers.

Diet is a route that I will consider, certainly.

Otherwise fit and healthy, yes.

Your joke is appreciated but a bit unnecessary.

You did say you've seen a lot of doctors; if you'd just seen one, I could understand but if numerous qualified professionals aren't sure then it's trickier to find answers on a forum.

Anyway, have you had any allergy tests? Maybe there's a particular food that's causing these problems. Dairy, wheat, etc - could try avoiding one for a week at a time and see how you feel.

Exclusion diets are a pig to sort out, especially if the symptoms aren't always there.

From an engineering perspective, time variant problems are usually solved by keeping a diary. Everything you eat, drink, exercise, work, where you're spending each day, brand of shampoo or shower gel, any activities etc all in there. Also put in all symptoms.

Do this for a couple of months then stick everything into a chart and play spot the correlation.

Im no Doctor but, I would first of all ask about how your diet is? You mention that it follows a set cycle, is that accurate or approximate?

To me it sounds like some sort of allergy, I would definetely have a test. The reason I ask is this: I have an awful allergy to dog/cat hairs, my eyes puff up like crazy, I feel sick and in bad circumstances my breathing is affected and I get double vision.

When I get a temperature, I hallucinate.

This is just an insight into how normal things may seem for an average person, my diet is perfect, I sleep well and don't drink stupidly and I regularly go to the gym and keep fit, I would say my body is in great shape, and yet when I get the flu (prays never again) I go from a picture of health, to a shaking wreck in bed with pictures of my family dying in my hallucinations!

In summary something you think is so insignificant can have really weird effects on your body, when I was younger we were in a holiday home which we had rented in France, worst time of my life, I have never felt more unwell - the previous holiday makers had 3 dogs which had obviously multed everywhere and although it was tidy, it became apparent some years later why I was so ill.

Get an allergy test; my parents got in contact with these guys 5 years ago or so( they did not have a website back then), and I am glad they did. http://www.allergytest.co.uk

It showed that when I came into contact with dog hairs in particular, it 'attacked my respiratory functions' - leading to other knock on effects.

It may come up with nothing, the NHS have test centres all over too which you can arrange to book. It may show a massive intolerance to something which you are sensitive to, the upset stomach part of your post may back what I am suggesting further, you said that you sometimes get an upset stomach which may be as a result of something in a type of food for sure.

Doctors are great for diagnosing most problems and treating these things with drugs, but allergies have so many different variables involved I am not surprised they don't know where to go from here.
