First tooth out!

Well, at 56 years old, I have just had my first one out (about 2 hours ago, actually) One of the big molers near the back.

A big thumbs up to the dentist. Did not really hurt. Hopefully it won't cause me too much pain when the injection wears off.

Have a stitch in it as he had to do "a bit of rooting around" his words not mine.


That's all! Thought I would pass that on. No where near as bad as I thought it was going to be

eta, He did tell me not to lift anything heavy. Not sure what that has to do with my tooth!

If you lift something heavy the effort you make will cause your bloodpressure to rise and this can break the blood clot at the tooth extraction site which will then bleed.

Actually, I once told my son when he was little that the tooth fairy sometimes made mistakes and takes eyeballs instead: he didn't sleep for a week

I had my first tooth pulled (upper right wisdom) 12 months ago. I'd put it off for atleast five years due to my overactive imagination giving me visions of a dentist with her foot on my chest pulling at my tooth whilst blood was gushing down my throat.
The reality was a million miles away.
Sit in chair. Push tooth. Pull tooth. Bite something. Go home.

Go Home! Slacker I went back to work. Popped in at lunchtime to have the bugger out, back by 13:00. The most pain was the injections for me. That and the "Can you feel thi...." "JESUS fkING CHRIST what did you do that for!". "Not numb yet then?" "We'll give you another injection..."

Watch out for a dry socket. That's when the blood clot falls out and exposes the remainder of the nerves (they shrink back I think) and the jawbone. When it happened to me it hurt like Feck.
Wash your mouth out gently with a mild salt solution after each meal and eat on the other side for a few days.
One last thing, if you are like me, your breath will be that bad for three days that you can smell it when you breathe.
