Chaps

New Years looms and im supposed to be going away with some old Uni mates, should be epic.

However over the last couple of days i have felt an effing cold coming on...so this is defcon 3...hopefully heading to my mates on Wednesday and ideally i dont want to be feeling too crap.

So what can PH recommend to fight off a cold before it sets in?

I'm thinking tons of fruit and lots of water, any other suggestions or tips? Really dont want to be raising a mug of lemsip at midnight on friday...

1st off lemsip is crap, you're far better having a proper dose of paracetamol/decongestant and a hot ribena!

I swear zinc reduces the length and strength of a cold. But if it hits home, dose up as above and dequacaine for your throat.

Order the hottest curry you can handle, then ask them to make it a little hotter than normal!

Take a Berocca daily, plus as much water and good food as you can cram in. Your body needs energy to fight off the virus and the water keeps the mucous membranes moist which flows the bad stuff out. Take paracetamol and ibuprofen to take away the aches and pains and reduce a temperature if you have one. Possibly a whiskey of a night too.

This'll sound disgusting but - a little salted water dip forefinger in, thrust up nostrils and twist a few times and you might just catch it in time. The virus doesn't like salt water apparently.

Always used double dose buttercup syrup in hot lemonade before bed.

Sweat like Paul Ghadd on a childrens ward, but wake up feeling great.

The instant one appears, I just blast the cold with tablets and lemsips. It works pretty well, cutting down the length of time I'm infected from a fortnight to less than a week.

Sticks.

A cold? Jeez, man up a bit and forget all the medicinial nonsense and go for a lengthy run or at least walk, plenty of fresh air etc.

Hot curry for dinner and a long hot soak in the bath.

Not sure how Paul's missus will respond to this suggestion.

Gallons of fresh orange juice and paracetemol works for me.

At the risk of sounding like a vegetarian, there is a product available from health food stores called 'citricidal'. It tastes like crap but it works for me...
