Useful site as a basic guide, probably more useful is knowing how many calories (roughly) you need to maintain a weight, of course this will vary from person to person..

Drinking lots of water helps, not only to speed up your metabolisim slightly but also helps you feel fuller after a meal. You body will appreciate it too!

I'm aiming for 16-1700 calories a day and its bloody hard work! I've been calorie restricting for 13 months now and its getting harder, i always feel hungry, but keeping yourself busy makes you think about it less, i have a very active job, often working 13-14 hours straight towards the end of a week with barely a 30 minute break inbetween, i've lost nearly 4 stone this way.

There are tons of ways of getting rid of hunger pains. I get a raging appetite too my friend when I train hard and if you understand how to eat the right foods you should be able to make it go away. Nobody should go hungry in my book, it's just not required to get lean, in fact it's very often counter productive to weight loss.

You should read up on nutrition a little more especially if you're lifting weights and want to add some muscle.

No, i was an obese bloke with high blood pressure, struggling to cope with the stress and demands of being self employed and being a father, so i got off my arse and did something about it, my blood pressure is normal, my BMI is in normal and i cope a lot better with day to day life.

Are you a man thats fat?

Sorry I mean no offence, I was just curious because there is little chance of me going below 2,500 calories a day without getting very hungry.

I was fat if that counts? Anyway here is my thread on my own weight loss and change.

http://pistonheads.co.uk/xforums/topic.asp?h=0&amp...

Personally I can't tolerate being hungry all day, just makes me miserable and would hinder my goals.

Used to be fat does count i suppose!

I admire the fact that you have lost a lot of weight, gained muscle and tone and still eat 'normally', but its something that isnt an option for me, working out 5 days would be impossible, there just isnt the time, so dropping the calories and doing as much activity as i can is the best for me, its slow progress but its great looking back at how i was and how i am now.

Thanks.

If it's of any interest I train 4 times a week for about 35 mins now and it's yeilded the biggest gains yet. I was definately slowing myself down previously by overtraining.

I still consider myself a novice of the range of subjects but I'm learning as much as I can on the different associated subjects. Lost_BMW and Morba probably give the best advice on this forum is my experience.

Gains in what respect, muscle mass or weight loss?

I'm still carrying too much weight, i'm 5ft 11 and 12 st 12lb, i was 16st 8lb. I look ok, but dont want to replace the fat with too much muscle as i'm happy being smaller framed, i've not been this weight since i was 16 and i'm 29 now.

Once i am down to 12 st dead on i'll be happy (maybe?) and see about training more to tone myself up, i'm not that bad in the muscle department anyway, its my belly that still needs to go.

Gains in terms of overall shape and muscle mass. I've 5'10 and about 14 stone and I gain fat on my stomach first too and quite quickly.

The thing with weights is they are brilliant for fat loss on many counts and I do very little cardio work at the moment so I know my fat loss is coming from having a decent diet and weight lifting.

I have been taking advice from some excellent bodybuilders and training using the HIT technique (high intensity and short breaks), its absolutely brutal but also means training sessions are short and very intense. Its based on Mike Mentzer's work (only every Mr Universe to get a perfect score). Actually some folk who do this only train twice a week and see great changes but it depends on where you are in your training i.e. beginner, intermediate or advanced.

If you gain a little muscle you'll find staying slim is much easier since muscle is very energy expensive to maintain and quite frankly looking athletic is a good look in my book! If you do lift weight's you'll not get big overnight so it shouldn't be of concern to you.

Thats a great change!

I think you'll need to sort out your eating and add some training of some type to get rid of the stomach though. I don't think you can get rid of it by going super low in calorie terms. Your body is probably in starvation mode right now because you're not eating enough and all that happens then is anything you eat gets stored as fat around your waist.

Good luck! It may be worth trying diet 2.0 from the Lyle McDonald link I posted earlier in the thread, it's well known for helping people lose a lot even if they aren't training!
