Generic statement alert biggrin salt is bad for you...

I know too much salt constricts the arteries, however I also exercise to the extent that salt crystals can form on my skin...

So, should you replace the salt you loose in exercise or not?

Too much salt is bad, but since the whole "Salt is evil" message started being broadcast we've actually had a lot of otherwise healthy people turning up at their GPs with sodium deficiencies.

So go on, put some on your chips. Just don't live on ready meals or fill your cooking with it.

Ah. frown

I would use a teaspoon of sea salt in a typical 4 person dish when I cook. Is that a lot or a little?

That's quite a bit, a pinch would normally do (IMHO)

I don't mean to be confrontational but do you have any links to back that up? I took part in a study looking at salt intake and blood pressure that meant I had to follow a salt free diet for two weeks and it was bloody hard to do.

I suspect that he meant people who did a lot of exercise and so lose salt through sweat rather than just healthy people. But I look forward to the links.

This is all my GP's fault, they did the whole "You're over 40, we're going to do your BP/cholesterol' thing and I got the entire salt is evil lecture biggrin

Apparently my arteries are going to constrict and I'll pop an artery in my brain and be a cabbage....

Was told by a GP friend, but I can believe it. Not likely to be a problem for your average person, but quite possible for healthy eating Nazis, especially if they exercise as well.

I've just done a bit of Googling and it appears you need about half a gram a day to keep you going, and more if you are losing lots via exercise. Considering that the average British adult consumes 9 grams a day though, I don't think it's a major worry.

Can you get them anywhere on the "highstreet"? Or are they online only?

The Mrs got cramps yesterday after exercise so these seem ideal.
