Why such a long sick note given?

The other half this afternoon had a Corticosteroid injection into 'joint NEC' (the form says) under x ray for her SST arthritis in her wrist and was given a sick note for 3 WEEKS!!!
Can anyone explain why as to us it was just a few injections.
BTW the surgeon/clinician insisted the note.

It's a standing job, but she builds child car seats with her hands.
The note is ticked against not fit for work.
But in saying that, everyone i know who has had a cortisone injection had it done at theirs GP's.
This was done in RHS Southampton hospital, theatre gown/shoes in a proper theatre and she has a huge bandage around her wrist that has to stay on for 4 days.

Different places have different rules re bandages etc. Some are done at GPs. An injection can cause a flare up over the next few days or so, so it may get more painful temporarily. They probably injected a local anaesthetic in at the same time which made it feel better for a few hours/days.
Don't know re sick cert. Most likely wanted to sign your OH off so as to not use the hand and give it the best chance of recovery.

I had this done in to my ankle down in to the heel just a little over a week ago. I drove home (it was my clutch foot) and have been walking about ever since and back to work the following day. I do have bad bruising but nothing that has really prevented me from walking on it.
I've also had this proceedure done a few times now and at no time have I had to be signed off though each case is different. This time round though the injection really hurt, I've had bruising and constant swelling and pain. I have a doctors appointment for tomorrow to get checked in case I have an infection within the joints.
