Anyone able to shed some light on this for me?

I have had for a few weeks, a really odd sensation in my throat, almost as f someone has pressure on the front. it has me clicking my throat, to the left of my adams apple, but nothing eases the feeling. if i cough it sends me into a coughing fit which makes me feel as if im choking. (get to see little sparkles in my eyes).

i had something simular years ago, though not as bad and it turned out to be a nodule? in my throat which was removed by op.

its worrying me now, and i alomost went to A&E tonight. to try and see my Dr is a bloody nightmare, and requires 3 week wait right now. anyone able to shed any light or even better, offer some methods for relief?

many thanks guys for any helpful ino you can share

I do not have a medical background in any way, but my advice is to get to the doctor as soon as possible. Make the appointment today, this morning.

I think you should get an appointment with your GP and wait. A+E is not the right place for you, they will not do any tests and will simply refer you back to said GP.

It doesn't sound too worrying. If it is a sensation as you say, without pain or loss of ability to speak, swallow etc, then it may well be globus sensation. Google it. Also called globus hystericus as it used to be predominantly a symptom of anxiety or stress.

well, i managed to ring my surgery and had an emergencey appointment just now..

Dr says its possibly acid from the stomach and a throat infection....im not convinced but will get the prescription today and see how it goes.

ive got tablets for the acid, and anti biotics.

i would have thought id have other symptoms if it were acid though?

My Mum has something similar, whihc has been an ongoing problem for a while. The hospital havent been able to find anything wrong (in both a good and bad way I suppose) despite all manner of cameras being pushed donw her neck :-/

I developed a similar problem a year ago. At first I thought it was heartburn but it didn't go away. I had the feeling every day, constantly. It was a sensation of a lump at the front of the throat, below the larynx and where I imagined the epiglottis would be. I also had pains in my chest from breathing in deeply a cough too and it was worse at night when lying down in bed. I had had a cough for two months already so wasn't sure if it was connected. (The cough persisted for four months and I never got to the bottom of it. I was referred to the hospital at the three month stage but they lost my x-rays and when I contacted the doctor a few weeks later the cough was then only a periodic one.)

I saw a doctor within a week of the symptoms first appearing but they put it down to stress. I was adamant that it was connected to excess stomach acid. The symptoms persisted but again stress was diagnosed. I even saw a second doctor who was rather pissed off at me for not believing it to be stress. I believed that it was something other than that as I had it even when I wasn't stressed.

As I felt well in myself and had suffered no unexplained, sudden weight loss the doctor said it was a good indication that it wasn't cancer.

I tried to adjust my diet to see if that helped and indeed it did. First of all I cut out cheese and switched to skimmed milk. I also stopped eating large meals late in the evening. This made a massive difference. I noticed that spicy and rich food triggered the sensation. So, this made me believe that it was indeed excess stomach acid coming up my esophagus and burning my epiglottis or top of esophagus.

Nine months after my first trip to the doctor I managed to persuade my GP to refer me to ENT. I had a camera down my throat and I was told that I had extraesophageal reflux disease. I was assured that the activity was innocuous. The specialist said that most of the activity was happening at night and that spicy foods were a trigger as was dairy. He also noted that I had an allergy that was contributing to the excess mucus. I don't need medication as I am managing it quite well by avoiding dairy, rich and spicy foods. I use soya margarine, yogurt and lactose free milk and this is really helping. I make a note of foods that trigger it and try to avoid them. If I have a lapse I just take three charcoal tablets after a meal and this helps to alleviate the symptoms.

I still get tightness in my chest but the cough and tickle in my throat has disappeared. I don't seem to be able to run as far as I used to but this could be down to not running regularly for 18 months. My old GP did wonder if I had developed asthma as when the cough and chest pain first appeared I had no chest infection. I've only just looked up GERDS and seen that asthma is also a symptom.
