Cysts on my head / hair loss

I have 2 (hopefully benign) cysts on my head and have seen my GP about it recently. I'm going to be referred to someone to have them removed but just wondering if anyone's had a similar procedure before? Not fussed about pain or whatever, I've had open chest surgery so this will be a walk in the park. It's just that due to having chemo last year I have really thin hair with bald patches and am a bit concerned that I'm going to suffer even more hair loss once these lumps are removed and there's scar tissue etc on my scalp. Is it likely to just be done with local anaesthetic or general?

Also if anyone has any recommendations on stuff I can do to encourage hair growth, please let me know. I'm only 24, I shouldn't be losing my hair already!!!

read something on the daily wail the other week about someone with alopecia eating an iron rich diet which helped the hair grow back better than before, worth a try..

If you mean fatty deposits then then my father has had these. Simple procedure to remove them - a small incision and they are teased out. Plenty of ewetube videos to entertain you in your curiosity if you really feel the need to explore more! As for pain, if I recall correctly, he said they're just done under local anasthetic and in a few days you'd never know they were there.

I have an appointment to have these lumps removed next week.

Since stopping smoking about 2 weeks ago I've noticed a slight improvement in hair growth too.

Acehood. I had 4 sebaceous cysts on my head and the skin was getting quite tight around them, so I opted to get them removed. They are merely fatty oily deposits and no harm can come from them.

I saw my GP, got a referral to see a consultant a week later. I saw the consultant and he booked me in the week after. I arrived in the morning and they used local anesthetic (they inject the scalp around the cysts). They then make a small incision around the cyst and then pull it out with tweezers, it's a bit of a weird feeling!!!

Once removed, they stitch you up with disolvable sutures and then you're on your way! It took 45mins in total and I was ok to drive home after. You're not allowed to wash your hair for a day, but then it's fine.

If they're causing you trouble, then go for it. If not, then ask yourself what the benefit will be?
