Any point taking it 32 hrs into a bout of diarrhoea and vomiting. Started drinking water (thats all) about 10 hrs ago but still have runny bum and queasy feeling. Ugh

It does, but your body is trying to flush everything out for a reason, so unless there is some reason you can't just let it get on with it, you are probably better off not taking it.

Definately works -- also don't forget to take Dioralalyte to replace lost fluid and body salts. This stops dehydration.

I agree and have always just stayed on water until things settle down, but I'm geting fed up with this now. Tescos is 30 seconds away so I've gone and bought some. Down the hatch!

Let your body get on with it. It's smarter than you are.

I was told this by a doctor when I had a bad bout and that whilst immodium does work as Mr Will says it's not ideal

Try and find J Collis Brown tablets, they are essentially a chalk type tablet and they just bind things together a bit more, allowing it to pass but with more control and less nastiness smile

The best thing for Diarrhea is actually Bisto gravy granules. Take 3 table spoonfuls.

They don't actually cure it, they just thicken it up a bit!! Lol.

You might want to take some rehydration stuff if you have any - you'll be losing salts etc. which will only make you feel worse.

All those indicating rehydration salts ( dioralyte) are spot on.

I stopped for some immodium before an early plane when travelling in work and the guy in the airport chemist suggested some dioralyte too and it noticeably and quickly helped me feel better.

In OP's case it sounds a bit like Norovirus and if so I'd be staying in bed (bed nearest the bog ideally) for a few days. I'm not a doctor of course smile

If you are feeling tight (money-wise, not bot-wise...that's probably quite the reverse) then loperamide from behind the pharmacy counter. us exactly the same stuff without the flashy packaging, and at a fraction of the cost.

Just got some Dioralyte and as Tre suggests these meds are a bloody ripoff.

Imodium is really just for stopping you getting caught short and cacking your daks when you're out and about. It doesn't cure whatever's making you ill. It can make you pretty toxic inside if you keep taking it.

It will stop you pooing but doesn't stop what's actually wrong with your guts.

Exactly as above, it will control the symptoms if you have to travel or get to work etc.

Far better to stay near a loo, drink plenty of fluids and keep your salt levels up with Diarolyte or something similar. Your body is trying to forcibly eject something from it. the Imodium just stops it.

ps I am not medically qualified.
