Went over to NY last week, day time flight, and as arrived around lunchtime we stayed up and went out till the wee small hours, their time no problem.

6 days later, yesterday, I arrive home via an over night flight, about an hours kip as I can't sleep unless I'm lying down, and over 24 hours later I still feel really jet lagged.

Question? Why is jet lag worse going East?

Because you miss a nights sleep. Going west you just have a longer day than usual but going east unless you get some sleep you lose a night

I'm the opposite.

I regularly fly to Seattle (9 hour flight). The flight out is early afternoon so I land around midnight UK time/5pm US time. I really struggle for about 4 days - I cant eat properly and my sleep is terrible.

The flight back is around 7pm US time and I land around 11.30am UK time. I can generally be in at work by 1pm, work a normal afternoon and slot straight into UK time.
