Does eating a large amount of garlic cause night sweats?
Discussion
Just curious really - made a curry the other night (virtually no spice due to housemate not liking spicy foods) with a fair amount of garlic in there.
Last night was horrible trying to sleep, I was sweating like a pig despite the window being open and only being covered with a sheet. I then thought back and realised this happens whenever I have a fair amount of garlic.
Anyone else get this?

No. Garlic does not cause night sweats.
Maybe you are sensitive to it ? Or something else that you have with the meal ?
Possibly... this has only happened over the past year or so. Will need to experiment next time by removing an ingredient. Only thing that was extra was tumeric (an extra tablespoon).Maybe you are sensitive to it ? Or something else that you have with the meal ?

I was about to suggest turmeric. I've been told to use just a pinch of it!
Unlikely unless you are sensitive again - I have not heard that before. We use a lot of garlic and turmeric and a fair bit of chilli powder in our cooking (2-4 days a week) and neither of us suffers from night sweats or weird dreams.
OP - Why don't you post what the entire menu was food, drink, snacks just before dinner and let us pick over it and see what might be causing it ?

Ok - from memory - Curry -
2 tablespoons tumeric
half tablespoon chilli powder
2 tins chopped toms
half tube tom puree
half tablespoon ground cumin
2 onions
dash of salt
tablespoon sugar
4 cloves garlic
500g chicken breast
2 green peppers
2 onions boiled lightly with it towards end of cooking.
Desert - Waitrose chocolate cupcake
Drink - just lemonade (no beer or alcohol)
Doesn't affect me. I love garlic, absolutely love it and we make a garlic chilli chicken curry with an obscene amount of the stuff in it
I made Fajitas a few weeks ago with (a lot of) cumin and smoked paprika on the beef and got the night sweats from that though...did you have either of those in your curry?
Edited for appalling typing.

Well coincidental experiment. Me and my boxing team mate, did this garlic cleanse type of thing, to boost the system, immunes etc... The system was table spoon of chopped garlic with honey swallowed whole. I've done this about 3 times over months and he tried it to. We both had the same reaction of gas, more toxins expelled in urine despite being hydrated. burning sensation in the stomach shortly after eating, smell of it in sweat, And lastly, night sweats. We both described the same night sweats, waking to soaked sheets. I also experience this the previous times... These symptoms last anywhere from 3-5 days... Heaviest at the start... The times of this I workout 5-6 days a week majority hi paced, his cardio.. Boxing were used to heavy sweating so don't know if being in shape contributed
