I have recently fractured my wrist snowboarding and have had a cast put on for several weeks, roughly 2/3's up my forearm.

unfortunately this obviously means I cant do any of my usual weights at the gym and I am finding myself climbing the walls as i want to do some exercise!

Do you think i would be ok to jog with my cast on? I have no pain from it now it is strapped up and i only jog a 3-4km route so I'm thinking it should be ok?

Also there is the sweat issue as I cant take the cast off to wash my arm etc........?

Be interested to hear if anyone has had a similar problem and if they managed to do any exercise, i can almost feel myself getting tubby................

Thanks in advance...........

Yes you can run with it.
Yes it'll get sweaty and smelly (and itchy).
Is it a plaster cast or a plastic mesh type? If plaster and you sweat a lot it might start to disintegrate.

I cycled with a broken wrist (broken in a cycling accident hehe) - cycling gloves just fitted over the end of the cast.

Is there a Stairclimber at your gym?

I've been put on the waiting list for an ankle op which will have me in a cast for 2-4 weeks with a further 8 weeks rehab. I'm probably going to delay the op until Autumn. The thought of not being able to exercise gives me the shivers!

I fell over and badly bruised my shoulder last summer. i carried on running a couple of days later, once the pain had gone off a bit , but it amazed me how much movement the upper body does while running , natural arm movement, rhythm ect, i had a lay off for a couple of weeks,it was too uncomfortable, You having a break,I dont think it would do the healing process, knitting of the bone any good running especially any distance or pace. the just my opinion , frown

Had my wrist in a mesh cast for 6 weeks a while back (re-attached thumb tendon). The initial cast was a standard plaster one, which they fitted as soon as they stitched up my thumb - this meant that the whole of the thumb section was soaked in blood, which also started to smell. Nice!

Anyway, I found that the cast was light enough to be able to carry on running with. I carried a water bottle in the other hand, which helped balance things up. I couldn't cycle as I couldn't grip anything with my left hand, so brakes would have been a no no.

The cast did get a little smelly, but it was cool enough at that time of year (Sep/Oct) that my arms and hands weren't sweating that much. The cast was going to smell anyway regardless and the only person that noticed it was me, when I deliberately stuck my snetch down the top to get a good whiff.
