That's a 14 mile round trip 5 days a week, would it be silly to expect a major increase in fitness if I kept this up? Takes approximately 35-40 minutes each way including about 2 miles of rough terrain. I can't go back to my (yet again) broken E39 5 Series fora week or so, by then I'll hopefully be into it enough to keep it up. Should help lose the gut I have I hope.

Great I was just about to ask a very similar question myself!

4y ago I struggled to walk up 6 flights of stairs at work

Today I am 3 stone lighter and have (stupidly) entered myself into a stage of the Tour de France up 3 Alps against the clock this summer

I started by riding a MTB twice a week for 90 mins at a time

You will deffo see some difference in fitness and your belly with the routine you mentioned

Good luck!

I'm looking to do a similar distance after work rather than as a commute (it's a 3 minute walk to work!) I'd be doing it as an alternative to the gym as my main concern is losing my gut and getting generally fitter again to play footy/go hiking etc.

Does this sound reasonable? smile

Recently started cycling to work and home, it's around 10 miles each way, and fairly hilly ( and usually seems fecking windy too).
Feeling lots fitter within around 3 weeks. Go for it!
Takes me about 40 to 50 mins dependent on weather, but I am old, and heavier than I should be.

Are you doing the Etape ? Respect! It's bloody hard work from what I have read. Makes running a marathon look easy.
