A really quick question for the PH doctors or anyone in the know! smile

Yesterday my girlfriend was diagnosed with a chest infection and was prescribed Co-Amoxiclav. The Pharmacy gave her a box consisting of 21 tablets; enough for one week. The Doctor mentioned that she should feel better after 6 weeks, so we're unsure as to whether this is considered as a full course of antibiotics. Do we need to make a return trip to the Pharmacy for another week's worth of tablets?

Cheers! thumbup

it tends to be around 250mg every 8 hours in a box of 21-tab, as it contains clavulanic acid as well as amoxicillin the course is different to normal. This is a full course but revisit doc if no result after a few weeks
hope this helps smile

It's normally 6 weeks for a virus, wonder if they are just giving antibiotics as they are uncertain whether it's viral or bacterial!

21 tablets one three times a day is a full course and generally will clear a bacterial infection. If it is a viral infection the antibiotics do not work but also do no harm, and the infection will clear in its own time.Augmentin is just a posh amoxycillin where it is claimed the clavulanic acid improves the action of the antibiotic
