Now I'm sure the 911 V Evora debate has been done to death; sorry about that.

I have a 911 (997) Carrera 4S with a switchable sports exhaust.
I have to say that, critical as I am of it in many ways - I can't argue with its noise or the drama of its engine.

I used to have an Elise some years ago and loved it, except for its Rover engine (sorry everyone!).
I friend of mine had a Toyota engine version, and I found that little better to be honest.
Woefully lacking in top end power (on the motorway for example) and sounded puny.
I got Lotus to fit a sports exhaust and then it just sounded puny with a flatulence problem.

The Evora though - now that does appeal.
What is its engine really like though compared to the 911 growling flat 6?
I was contemplating test driving one as I love the way it looks, and I love Lotus.
I don't want to waste my time though if its engine doesn't live up to expectations.

I do lots of miles a year too, in all weather.
How will the Evora fair at that?

Okay not in an Evora, but this is the same engine.

With a decent manifold/exhaust/intake setup this is what it sounds like in a mid engined car.

I don't think either of them sound that good if I'm honest. The Evora has a nice warble, and the 911 seems to have more of a rasp/metallic type noise. Depends what you like.

V8 Vantage or R8 for noise. Evora for driving. Porsche to keep up with the Jones'.

Mind you the Jones's do not need much keeping up these days.....

Don't worry about doing a lot of mileage in the Evora, one of the Scottish Evora contingent has done something like 18k in his so far.

Personally I think the sports exhaust is essential for the Evora as it does sound a little bit more fruity (although still yet to hear it on full whack going past as always been in the driving seat).

Must admit that I do like the switcheable option on 911's as always nice to be a little bit more subtle when coming home late at night (does not help with my neighbour being a traffic cop)

Cheers
George
