As the title asks, is it someone who follows their team of choice through good and bad and hardly ever has a bad thing to say, or someone who claims to follow a team, however never has a good thing to say, or someone who sees what they perceive as shortcomings and discuss it with like minded supporters or a mix of the three etc.
Just an open question and very interested in all the replies

First and foremost you have to like football as a sport, be that playing or watching or both. Then you have your team, most support a team based on proximity to their home or because of a family connection. Some "glory hunters" support teams based on possible success and popularity ie Man Utd.

Once your hooked to a club it envelopes you, its tribal and a good or bad result can affect your mood for days, a player wanting to leave your team can and often will cause you to want to remove his eyes with a rusty spoon. It becomes part of you, embeded into your personality and on match days little else matters as much. I can honestly say I would rather change my gender than support another club. You can even harbour opinions on people based entirely on which team they support, most Arsenal fan are utter spastics for example hehe

Football is almost a religion and as recent events have shown a power for good. I couldn't imagine life without it, HTH smile

I had a debate with a mental Evertonian woman today because she said that I wasn't a real supporter because I'm not going to Wembley to support Liverpool and that I don't have a season ticket.
I've been Wembley twice, Cardiff once, had a season ticket for 8 years. probably watched more games than her.
I try my dam best to watch every game I can. If I can't i'll be listening to it. That's what makes a football team supporter if that is what you are asking. Somebody who trys to watch every single game instead of not being bothered about it and going shopping instead etc.

I think that explains things nicely except for the gender thing. I can't say that I'd rather switch gender than team because I'd love to have a fanny with 24 hour unrestricted access so it hardly illustrates how much I love Man United.

Being a supporter is about following a team through thick or thin.
Not going to every game, but if you can't go checking the scores avidly.

It doesn't mean that you see everything through rose-tinted spectacles. You can criticise (but never boo) your own team. You can see their failings but you can see the moments of brilliance.

And, you get to savour the moments of success, glory, victory.

But mostly its misery. Abject misery.

My name is Hackney and I'm a Forest fan, season ticket holder but only get to about half a dozen games per season. Including this Saturday. Yoooooo rrrrreeeeeddddddsssssss!!!

Reminds me of a post about sex on MyFitnessPal.com:
"I hate sex. Never have the stuff..... dont even like thinking about it. *yuck* If it weren't for duct tape I would NEVER have it."

Made me laugh but I think she was being serious. CIE, is that your girlfriend? biggrin
